Content: 100% pure wool.

Needles:

Size 5 mm

Circular needle size 4 and 5 mm (40 cm)

Tension:

17 sts and 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm in brioche pat on size 5 mm needles.

When only one figure is given, it applies to all sizes.

Brioche pattern [back and front]: Work according to chart 1. Numbers at right edge of chart indicate RS rows, numbers at left edge of chart indicate WS rows. Beg chart pat with WS set-up row, then work rows [1 – 10] 9 times, then work rows [11 – 20] 2 (3) 4 times, then work rows 21 – 32 once, then work rows 21 and 22 once, then repeat rows 23 and 24 throughout.

Brioche pattern in rows: Work according to chart 2. Number at right edge of chart indicates RS row, number at left edge of chart indicates WS row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 throughout.

Brioche pattern in rnds: Work according to chart 3. Numbers at right edge of chart indicate rnds.

Slip stitch selvage:

On RS rows, knit the first st tbl and sl the last st as if to purl with yarn in back of work.

On WS rows, purl the first st tbl and sl the last st as if to purl with yarn in front of work.

Garter st in rnds: * Purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd; rep from * throughout.

Back

With size 5 mm needles, cast on 95 (103) 111 sts and work WS set-up row of chart 1. Next, work in brioche pat according to chart 1 as foll: Slip st selvage, work 93 sts between arrow A and D (101 sts between arrow B and E, 109 sts between arrow C and F), slip st selvage. Cont to follow chart for brioche pat, repeating rows as instructed until a total of 90 (96) 102 rows have been worked and back measures approx. 29 (31) 33 cm, measured along side edge.

Shape sleeves: Cast on 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, [work 4 rows even, cast on 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows] 5 times, work 2 rows even, then cast on 66 (64) 62 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 251 (255, 259) sts. Work increased sts into brioche pat. Work even until sleeve measures 13 cm from last cast-on row. Slide 103 (105) 107 sts, then 45 sts, then 103 (105) 107 sts to separate holders for shoulders/overarms and neck.

Front

Work same as for back.

Finishing

Pin pieces to measurements and block. Graft shoulder seams. Slide back and front neck sts from holders to size 5 mm circular needle = 90 sts. Join for working in rnds and work brioche pat in rnds for 4 cm. Change to size 4.5 mm circular needle and work garter st in rnds for 4 rnds. Bind off all sts purlwise. Sew side and sleeve seams.
