Take a simple tunic shape and make it sensationa­l this summer with cable chains, zigzags and vertical stripes.

CABLE TUNIC STITCH PATTERNS RIGHT ZIGZAG PANEL (WORKED OVER 13 STS)

Row 1 (RS) P6, T3B, P1, T3B.

Row 2 and every WS row Work across 13 sts knitting all knit sts and purling all purl sts as they present, thus Row 2 will read: K1, P2, K2, P2, K6.

Row 3 P5, (T3B, P1) twice.

Row 5 P4, T3B, P1, T3B, P2.

Row 7 P3, T3B, P1, T3B, P3.

Row 9 P2, T3B, P1, T3B, P4.

Row 11 (P1, T3B) twice, P5. Row 13 (P1, T3F) twice, P5.

Row 15 P2, T3F, P1, T3F, P4.

Row 17 P3, T3F, P1, T3F, P3.

Row 19 P4, T3F, P1, T3F, P2.

Row 21 P5, T3F, P1, T3F, P1.

Row 23 P6, T3F, P1, T3F.

Change to 4.5mm needles and work 12 more rows in patt. Change to 4mm needles and work 24 more rows in patt. Change to 4.5mm needles and work 12 more rows in patt. Now change to 5mm needles and cont in patt until work meas 60 (60: 61: 61: 62: 62)cm from beg, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS

Cast off 8 (8: 9: 9: 10: 11) sts loosely at beg of next 8 rows. [41 (51: 53: 61: 63: 65) sts]

Cast off 7 (10: 10: 12: 12: 12) st at beg of next 2 rows. [27 (31: 33: 37: 39: 41) sts]

Slip rem sts onto a stitch holder.

FRONT

Work as Back until Front measures 14 (14: 16: 16: 18: 18) rows before back shoulder shaping, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE LEFT NECK.

Next row (RS) Patt 44 (47: 51: 53: 57: 61), turn. Cont on this group of sts for left half of neck.

Work 5 rows dec 1 st at neck edge on every row. [39 (42: 46: 48: 52: 56) sts]

Work 8 (8: 10: 10: 12: 12) rows straight, ending at side edge.

SHAPE LEFT SHOULDER

Cast off 8 (8: 9: 9: 10: 11) sts loosely at beg of next row and the 3 foll alt rows.

Work 1 row straight.

Cast off rem 7 (10: 10: 12: 12: 12) sts.

SHAPE RIGHT NECK

With RS facing, slip next 17 (21: 23: 27: 29: 31) sts (centre sts) on a stitch holder. Neatly rejoin yarn at neck edge and work to end of row. [44 (47: 51: 53: 57: 61) sts]

Next row (WS) Patt to end of row.

Work 5 rows dec 1 st at neck edge on every row.

[39 (42: 46: 48: 52: 56) sts]

Work 8 (8: 10: 10: 12: 12) rows straight, ending at side edge.

SHAPE RIGHT SHOULDER

Cast off 8 (8: 9: 9: 10: 11) sts loosely at beg of next row and the 3 foll alt rows.

Work 1 row straight. Cast off rem 7 (10: 10: 12: 12: 12) sts.

NECKBAND

Join left shoulder.

With 4mm needles, RS facing, knit across 27 (31: 33: 37: 39: 41) sts from back neck inc 3 sts evenly, pick up and knit 18 (18: 19: 19: 21: 21) sts evenly down left side of neck, knit across 17 (21: 23: 27: 29: 31) sts from front neck, , pick up and knit 18 (18: 19: 19: 21: 21) sts evenly up right side of neck inc 2 sts evenly.

[85 (93: 99: 107: 115: 119) sts]

Row 1 (WS) Purl.

Rows 2 to 5 Beg with a purl row work 4 rows in rev st st.

Row 6 Knit. Row 7 Purl.

Rows 8 to 10 Beg with purl row work 3 rows in rev st st. Using a 5mm needle, cast off loosely knitwise.

ARMHOLE BORDERS

Join right shoulder.

Place a marker approx 50 (56: 60: 64: 70: 72) rows down from shoulder seams on all side edges.

With 4mm needles, RS facing, pick up and knit 82 (85: 89: 93: 97: 101) sts evenly between one set of markers.

Row 1 (WS) Purl.

Rows 2 to 5 Beg with a purl row work 4 rows in rev st st.

Row 6 Knit. Row 7 Purl.

Rows 8 to 10 Beg with purl row work 3 rows in rev st st. Using a 4mm needle, cast off loosely knitwise.

MAKING UP

Join side seams to armhole borders

Block gently to measuremen­ts provided, following any instructio­ns on the ball band.
