■ A pair of 2.5mm double-pointed needles (DPNs) or circular needles, 60cm long, if using Magic Loop method

■ Stitch markers

26 sts and 34 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 2.5mm needles

EYELET SOCKS

Note Worked in the round from the top down.

MAIN PATTERN

Worked over 37 sts.

Round 1 K1, P4, (wrap 1 dec, P3) to last 2 sts, P1, K1. Round 2 K1, P1, (P3, K2) to last 5 sts, P4, K1.

Round 3 K1, P4, (K1, yo, K1, P3) to last 2 sts, P1, K1. Round 4 K1, P1, (P3, K3) to last 5 sts, P4, K1.

LEG

Cast on 66 (68: 72) sts using 2.5mm DPNs or a circular needle and join to work in the round, taking care not to twist sts. PM to mark beg of round.

Knit 1 round.

Rib round 1 (P1, K1) to end.

Rep rib round another 8 times.

Decrease round (P1, K1) 14 (14: 16) times, ssk, (P1, K1) 3 times, P1, k2tog, (K1, P1) to last st, K1. [64 (66: 70) sts]

Piece measures approx. 3cm.

Begin Main Pattern as folls:

Round 1 (P1, K1) 7 (7: 8) times, work Round 1 of Main Pattern over next 37 sts, (K1, P1) to last st, K1.

Round 1 sets pattern placement for Main Pattern.

Cont in Main pattern as set, working through Rounds 2 to 4 of Main Pattern, then repeating Rounds 1 to 4 until piece measures approx. 12cm or desired length, ending on a Round 4 of pattern. HEEL

Work heel back and forth as follows: Next row (RS) (P1, K1) 7 (7: 8) times, turn.

Heel is worked in rows over the next 27 (29: 31) sts.

Next row (K1, P1) into next st, (K1, P1) to last st, (K1, P1) into last st. [29 (31: 35) sts – two edge sts inc’d]

Cont to work in rib as set in rows until heel measures 5 (5.5: 6)cm, ending on a WS row and decreasing 1 edge st at each side of final row. [27 (29: 33) sts]

Insert a locking marker or a piece of waste yarn in the middle of last row, to be used later to measure the length of foot. HEEL TURN

Row 1 Knit until 8 (8: 9) sts rem, ssk, turn. [1 st dec’d]

Row 2 Purl until 8 (8: 9) sts rem, ssp, turn. [1 st dec’d]

Row 3 Knit until 7 (7: 8) sts rem, ssk, turn. [1 st dec’d]

Row 4 Purl until 7 (7: 8) sts rem, ssp, turn. [1 st dec’d] Continue decrease like this with 1 stitch less before each decrease

until there are 13 (15: 17) heel sts on the needle.

GUSSET

Round 1 Work in st st over the 13 (15: 17) heel stitches, pick up and knit 13 (14: 16) sts along the side of heel inside the edge st, PM, work Round 1 of Main pattern over next 37 sts, PM, pick up and knit 13 (14: 16) sts along the other side on heel inside the edge stitch, knit 6 (7: 8) sts and PM for beg of round.

[76 (80: 86) sts]

Round 2 (Dec round) K to 2 sts before SM, k2tog, sl SM, patt to SM, sl SM, ssk, K to end. [2 sts dec’d]

Round 3 K to SM, sl SM, patt to SM, sl SM, K to end.

Rep Rounds 2 and 3 another 11 (11: 12) times. [52 (56: 60) sts]

Cont to work in st st and Main Pattern as set until piece measures 17 (19: 21)cm or 5 (5: 6)cm from desired Sock length.

Removing all markers except beg of round marker, insert 1 new SM in each side of sock so that 26 (28: 30) sts rem both on top of foot and under foot.

TOE

Cont to work in st st, decreasing for toe as folls:

Round 1 *K to 3 sts before SM, k2tog, K1, sl SM, K1, ssk; rep from * once more, K to end. [4 sts dec’d]

Round 2 Knit, slipping markers.

Rep Rounds 1 and 2 another 6 (6: 7) times, then rep Round 1 another 4 (5:5) times.

[8 sts]

Cut yarn and pull through the remaining sts, tighten together and fasten. Weave in ends and work the other Sock the same way.
