Pattern I: 3 mm needles: reverse stocking st = RS p, WS k.

Pattern II: 3 mm needles: Jacob’s ladder, even no. of sts:

Row 1, RS: 1 edge st, * yo, k2tog *, rep from * to *, ending with 1 edge st.

Rows 2 + 4: P.

Row 3: 1 edge st, * sl1, k1, psso, yo *, rep from * to *, ending with 1 edge st.

Repeat rows 1 – 4.

Pattern III: 3 mm needles: stocking st = RS k, WS p.

Pattern IV: 3 mm needles: Jacob’s ladder, odd no. of sts:

Row 1, RS: 1 edge st, * k2tog, yo twice, sl1, k1, psso *, rep from * to *, ending with 1 edge st.

Row 2, WS: 1 edge st, * p1, purl the first yarn over and knit the 2nd yarn over, p1*; rep from * to *, ending with 1 edge st.

Repeat rows 1 + 2.

Pattern sequence: 4 rows pattern

II, 4 rows pattern III, 4 rows pattern II, 2 rows pattern III, 10 rows pattern IV, 2 rows pattern III, 4 rows pattern II, 4 rows pattern III, 4 rows pattern II.

Pattern V: 2 mm needles: k2, p2 rib. On foll rnds knit the sts as they appear.

Tip 1: The front and back are knitted cross-wise. The border is knitted on, see patterns II – IV.

Tip 2: The arrows on the schematic indicate the direction of working. Tip 3: If necessary, use larger needles to cast off.

Back (right half)

Cast on 55 sts for the edge of the sleeve with 3 mm needles. Knit in pattern I. For the curve, cast on at the left edge on every other row: 1 st 4 times, 2 sts 9 times, 3 sts 5 times, 4 sts 1 (2) times and 5 sts 1 (2) times = 101 (110) sts. Also knit the new sts in pattern I. Then for shaping, cast off at the left edge on every other row, alt [1 st once and 2 sts once] 33 (36) times, then cast off the rem 2 sts. With 3 mm needles, pick up 102 (110) sts along the slanting edge. Purl 1 WS row, then work 38 rows in the pattern sequence. At the same time, inc 1 st at each end of every other row 19 times (beginning on the first row) = 140 (148) sts. Loosely cast off all sts (see tip 3).

Left half

Knit to mirror the right half.

Left front

Cast on 55 sts for the edge of the sleeve with 3 mm needles. Knit in pattern I. For the curve, cast on at the left edge on every other row: 1 st 4 times, 2 sts 9 times, 3 sts 5 times, 4 sts 1 (2) times and 5 sts 1 (2) times. Also knit the new sts in pattern I. At the same time, for shoulder shaping, inc 1 st at the right edge on every 6th row 14 times = 115 (124) sts. Once the curve is complete, cast off at the left edge on every other row for slanting edge, cast off alt [4 sts once and 5 sts once] 12 (13) times, then cast off the rem 7 sts.

With 3 mm needles, pick up 90 (98) sts along the front edge. Purl 1 WS row, then work 38 rows in the pattern sequence, increasing 1 st at the left edge on every other row 19 times (beginning on the first row). At the same time, inc 1 st at the right edge on every 4th row 9 times = 118 (126) sts. Loosely cast off all sts.

Right front

Knit to mirror the left front.

Finishing

Overlap the back halves 28 cm and sew together (= A to A). With sewing thread, sew the borders invisibly onto the front or back of the back pieces (over approx. 33 (35) cm from the neck). If desired, crochet 1 rnd of ss around the neckline. Then join the shoulder seams (= B to B) and the side seams.

With the circular needle, pick up 104 sts around the edge of each sleeve. Knit pattern V in the rnd for approx. 2,5 cm, then cast off all sts loosely, pattern-wise.

Make fringes and attach to the cast-off edges of the eyelet border of the front and back pieces (in every 4th st), for the fringe knot together 5 strands approx 24 cm long, on the back only knot fringes into the open edges.

Design: Langyarns

Repeat rows 1 – 8.

Decreases: At beg of row: Edge st, k2tog. At end of row: Before the edge st, sl 1, k1, psso.

Tip: Knit the edge sts in pattern as set, when making up sew seams just half a stitch in from the edge.

Back

Cast on 90 (110) sts with 4 mm needles. Knit in pattern I. After 5 cm change to 5 mm needles and knit in pattern II, increasing 2 (0) sts evenly on the first row = 92 (110) sts.

Armholes: At 49 (47) cm from cast-on (measured hanging) place a marker at each end of the row (for length) and continue knitting straight.

Neck: At 68 cm from cast-on, cast off the middle 12 (16) sts, then cast off 9 (10) sts at neck edge either side after 2 more rows. Loosely cast off the rem 31 (37) sts at 21 (23) cm from markers.

Front

Knit as for back.

Neck: At 62 (60) cm cast off the middle 12 (16) sts, then at neck edge either side, on every other row, cast off 3 sts twice and dec 1 st twice then dec 1 st again on every 4th row 1 (2) times. Cast off the rem 31 (37) sts each side for shoulders, at the same length as for back.

Sleeves

Cast on 50 (54) sts with 4 mm needles. Knit in pattern I. After 5 cm change to 5 mm needles and knit in pattern II, increasing 15 (20) sts evenly over the first row = 65 (74) sts. To shape sides, inc 1 st at each end of every 24th row (every 32nd) row 4 (3) times = 73 (80) sts. Loosely cast off all sts when sleeve measures 51 cm.

Finishing

Close seams, only joining the side seams up to the markers. Neckband: With the circular needle, pick up 84 (96) sts (back = 36 (40) sts, front = 48 (56) sts). Knit pattern I in the rnd for 9 cm, then cast off all sts loosely, pattern-wise. Turn half of the neckband in and sew in place on the inside. Set in sleeves between the markers on the front and back.
