BLOUSE WITH FAKE POCKETS

Guess what? Red is hot. What's more, absolutely any shade of red is sizzling right now! This blouse absolutely glows in a dark brick red colour. It is a cool and boxy design – knitted in a glossy cotton blend with a striking textured pattern on the shoulders that is repeated on the decorative fake pockets.

Patterns I + II, 3 mm needles: 22 sts = 10 cm wide. 31 rows = 10 cm long.

Patterns III + IV, 3 mm needles: 23 sts = 10 cm wide (measured slightly stretched).

32 rows = 10 cm long.

Pattern I: 2 + 3 mm needles: stocking st = RS k, WS p.

In the round = k all sts.

Pattern II: 3 mm needles: reverse stocking st = RS p, WS k.

Pattern III: 3 mm needles: eyelet rib:

Row 1, RS: 1 edge st, *k1, p2tog, yo, p1*, rep from * to *, ending with k1, 1 edge st.

Row 2, WS: 1 edge st, *p1, k1*, rep from * to *, ending with p1, 1 edge st.

Pattern IV: 2 + 3 mm needles: fake raglan with dec, st no. divisible by 4 + 1 + edge st, according to chart. The chart shows the RS rows and the WS rows. Work dec on every other row until only 3 sts remain on the needles.

Decreases: At beg of row: Edge st, k2tog. At end of row: Before edge st, sl 1, k1, psso.

Tip 1: The arrow on the schematic indicates the direction of knitting. Tip 2: Fake raglan dec: In pattern IV only work a yarn over when there is a corresponding dec.

Tip 3: The fake raglan will be sewn on over the shoulder seams.

Back

Cast on 165 (187) sts with 3 mm needles. Knit 12 rows in pattern I, then work in pattern II.

Armholes: At 30 cm from the cast-on (measured hanging), inc 1 st at each end of the row, 1 st on every 4 th row twice and every other row twice, then cast on 2 sts at each end of every other row 3 times = 187 (209) sts.

Neck: When back measures 53 (56) cm cast off the middle 35 (39) sts, then at neck edge either side, on every other row, cast off 4 sts once, 2 sts once, and dec 1 st twice. Shoulders: When armhole edge measures 20 (23) cm cast off the rem 68 (77) sts each side for the shoulders.

Front

Knit as for back.

Neck: At 45 (48) cm from the cast-on, cast off the middle 19 (23) sts, then at neck edge either side, on every other row cast off 4 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts twice and dec 1 st 3 times and the 1 st again on every 4th row twice. Shape shoulders to match the back.

Fake pockets

Right pocket: With 2 mm needles, from the first row of pattern II, pick up sts 6 – 52 (8 – 54) (from the RS). Purl 1 WS row, then change to 3 mm needles and knit in pattern III. At 16 cm from picking up sts work 1 row (RS) in k and cast off over the row.

Left pocket: Knit as for right pocket, picking up sts 114 – 160 (134 – 180).

Finishing

Close shoulder seams.

Fake raglan: With 2 mm needles over the central 34 (40) cm of the

armhole edge (over the shoulder seam) pick up 79 (91) sts (front = 39 (45) sts, 1 centre st (seam), back = 39 (45) sts). For the insert, change to 3mm needle and knit in pattern IV, decreasing 1 st at each end of every other row 38 (44) times (see tip 2). Cast off the rem 3 sts when insert is approx. 24 (28) cm in length.

Sew all around the fake pockets. Attach the fake raglan inserts at the open edges to the front and back. Close the rest of the seams. Turn in half of the stocking st border and sew in place on the inside. Neckband: With the circular needle, pick up 154 (165) sts (back = 64 (69) sts, front = 90 (96) sts). Purl 1 rnd, then work pattern I in the round for 12 rnds. Loosely cast off sts, turn half of the neckband in and sew in place on the inside.

Sleeve border: With doublepointed needles, pick up 94 (110) sts. Purl 1 rnd, then work pattern I in the round for 12 rnds. Loosely cast off sts, turn in half of the border and sew in place on the inside.
