MAKING UP

Place an inner ear to an outer ear, with right sides facing. Hold bases tog and sew the 2 pieces tog all the way around leaving a gap at the base. Turn right side out and sew across base. Pin ears in position at sides of hat, starting on 3rd row up from where Yarn A meets Yarn B, leaving about 7.5cm in between and curving as you go. Sew back of ears in position then front of ears. Fold mitten part of scarf over, using the first row of g st as the fold line, and sew seams.

For each paw, cut out a triangle of black felt about 3.5cm x 2.5cm and round the edges in a similar way to nose. Cut out 2 ovals 1.8cm x 1.2cm and 2 ovals 1.5cm x 1cm. Arrange them in a paw print using the photo as a guide. Sew them securely to inside of mitten, starting about 10 rows up from g st fold line and 12 rows up from first row of st st. Use a length of Yarn C to embroider a tiny straight st for a claw at tip of each oval, carefully sewing under the Yarn A sts at the back when going from one oval to the next. Weave in all loose ends securely.
