SNOWFLAKE JUMPER STITCH PATTERNS

MOSS STITCH

Worked over an odd number of stitches. Row 1 (RS) K1, *P1, K1; rep from * to end. Row 2 As Row 1.

BACK

Cast on 111 (117: 125: 131: 139: 145: 151: 157: 165: 171) sts using 3.25mm needles and Yarn A.

Beg with a RS row, work in moss stitch until Back measures 5cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row.

Change to 3.5mm needles and work in Pattern as follows. Row 1 (RS) (K1, P1) 3 times, knit to last 6 sts, (P1, K1) 3 times. Row 2 (K1, P1) 3 times, K1, purl to last 7 sts, K1, (P1, K1) 3 times. These 2 rows set st st with moss st edges.

Continue as set until Back measures 8cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row.

Work Big Snowflake as follows:

Note Place markers at the start and end of the Star pattern and slip these as you go. Work the pattern using the intarsia method but strand the yarn not in use loosely across the back of the star section ONLY so you only need to work with 3 balls of yarn at the same time.

Row 1 (RS) (K1, P1) 3 times, K13, PM, work Row 1 of Big Snowflake Chart across 45 sts, PM, knit to last 6 sts, (P1, K1) 3 times.

Row 2 (K1, P1) 3 times, K1, purl to marker, sl SM, work Row 2 of Big Snowflake Chart across 45 sts, sl SM, purl to last 7 sts, K1, (P1, K1) 3 times.

These 2 rows set the position of the patterns; the edge 7 sts at both sides worked in moss stitch, then the Big Snowflake placed off centre with stocking stitch at both sides.

Cont in patt as set until Back measures 15cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row. Increase at both ends where the side seam will be sewn to as follows:

Next row (RS) Kfb, patt to last 2 sts, kfb, K1.

[113 (119: 127: 133: 141: 147: 153: 159: 167: 173) sts]

Now, beg with a WS (purl) row, work in st st across all sts, cont in the Big Snowflake Chart pattern as set, AND AT THE SAME TIME, when work measures 30cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row, add a Small Snowflake into your work as follows:

Next row (RS) Patt 85 sts, PM, work Row 1 of Small Snowflake Chart across 15 sts, PM, knit to end.

Next row Patt to marker, sl SM, work Row 2 of Small Snowflake Chart across 15 sts, sl SM, patt to end.

Cont as set until you have completed both charts. Remove chart markers

Now work in st st using Yarn A only, until Back measures 37 (39: 39: 39: 40: 41: 42: 43: 43: 44)cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 4 (5: 5: 6: 6: 7: 7: 8: 8: 9) sts at the beg of the next 2 rows. [105 (109: 117: 121: 129: 133: 139: 143: 151: 155) sts]

Next row (RS dec) K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, K1. [2 sts dec’d] Next row (WS dec) P1, p2tog, purl to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, P1.

[2 sts dec’d]

Rep RS dec row once more.

Work one row straight, a WS row.

Now work another Small Snowflake AND AT THE SAME TIME shape armholes as follows.

Next row (RS) K1, ssk, K15, PM, work Row 1 of Small Snowflake Chart, PM, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, K1. [2 sts dec’d]

Next row Purl to marker, sl SM, work Row 2 of Small Snowflake Chart, sl SM, purl to end.

These 2 rows set the position of the patterns. Cont to work the Small Snowflake between the markers AND AT THE SAME TIME cont to dec 1 st at each end of next row (a RS row) and 2 (2: 5: 5: 7: 8: 9: 10: 13: 13) foll RS rows. When you have completed chart, remove chart markers and work in st st using Yarn A only.

Cont straight for another 1cm, ending after a WS row, then work another Small Snowflake as follows:

NECK EDGING

Join left shoulder seam.

With 3.25mm needles, RS facing, Yarn A, and starting at the Back, knit across the 53 (55: 57: 57: 59: 59: 61: 61: 63: 65) from the Back stitch holder, pick up and knit 21 (21: 21: 21: 23: 23: 23: 23: 23: 23) sts down left front neck, knit the 37 (39: 41: 41: 43: 43: 43: 43: 45: 47) sts from the Front holder, pick up and knit 21 (21: 21: 21: 23: 23: 23: 23: 23: 23) sts sts up right front neck.

[132 (136: 140: 140: 148: 148: 150: 150: 154: 158) sts]

Next row (WS) *K1, P1; rep from * to end.

Next row (RS) *P1, K1; rep from * to end.

Rep these 2 rows until neck edging measures 12cm from picked-up edge, ending after a RS row.

Cast off loosely in rib on the WS, leaving a long tail at least three times as long as the circumfere­nce of the neck.

MAKING UP

Join right shoulder and neckline seam. Fold over the neckline to the inside with WS together and using the long tail, sew it to the start of the neckline. Sew Sleeve caps into armholes. Sew Sleeve seams. Sew side seams to the point where the extra stitch was added at each side (approximat­ely 15cm above the hemline edge). Weave in ends.
