Crafts of Thirsk

-

Every month we explore one of our favourite UK yarn shops!

Who’s in charge? Sam Spence – I run the shop single-handedly, but my husband helps. Where can we find you? We’re based in the historic market town of Thirsk in North Yorkshire (which is a popular tourist destination due to being the home of James Herriot). When did your doors first open? I took over the shop in April 2019 after the previous owners retired. The business has been in the town for over 40 years in di erent locations. What is your shop like? A TARDIS! We’re quite small, but we are filled to the rafters with stock. We recently redecorated and modernised, but kept the ‘olde worlde’ charm. Popular products? Baby yarns are definitely the most popular yarns we sell, but we have seen an increase in younger knitters and they tend to like making homewares.

Who shops at your shop? Anyone and everyone. We have a really great set of loyal customers ranging from aged 5 to 95, male and female.

Top knitting tip? Don’t doubt yourself. If you make a mistake, it can more often than not be rectified, and if it can’t, it just makes your end product unique. Nobody is marking you! 31 Market Place, Thirsk YO7 1HD. Call 01845 523625 or visit www.facebook.com/craftsofthirsk
