- EASY TO KNIT

■ Stylecraft Special Aran (100% acrylic, 100g/195m), 1 ball of Lipstick (1249), 1 ball of Meadow (1065)

■ A pair of 5mm needles 18.5 sts and 24 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 5mm needles

For a full list see page 95 HAT POINTY BRIM Cast on 95 sts using 5mm needle and Lipstick.

Row 1 K1,*P1, K1; rep from * to end of row. Rep Row 1 to form the moss stitch pattern. Continue to work in moss stitch throughout the pattern.

Work 7 rows in moss stitch.

**Row 9 (RS) K2tog, moss st 15, k2tog, turn. [17 sts]

Work only on these 17 sts as folls: Row 10 and every alt row Moss st row. Row 11 K2tog, moss st 13, k2tog, turn. [15 sts]

Row 13 K2tog, moss st 11, k2tog, turn. [13 sts]

Row 15 K2tog, moss st 9, k2tog, turn. [11 sts]

Row 17 K2tog, moss st 7, k2tog, turn. [9 sts]

Row 19 K2tog, moss st 5, k2tog, turn. [7 sts]

Row 21 K2tog, moss st 3, k2tog, turn. [5 sts]

Row 19 K2tog, moss st 1,k2tog, turn. [3 sts]

Row 21 K3tog.

Fasten o yarn.***

Rejoin yarn and repeat from ** to *** four more times. Cast o remaining stitches.

HAT CROWN

Cast on 95 sts using 5mm needle and Meadow.

Row 1 Knit.

Row 2 Purl.

Continue to work in stocking stitch until the knitting measures 11cm, ending on a purl row.

Next row (RS) *K17, k2tog; rep from * to end of row. [90 sts]

Starting with a purl row, st st 3 rows.

Next row *K16, k2tog; rep from * to end of row. [85 sts]

Starting with a purl row, st st 3 rows.

Next row *K15, k2tog; rep from * to end of row. [80 sts]

Starting with a purl row, st st 3 rows. Continue to decrease in this fashion until 5 sts remain.

Cut the yarn and thread on to large sewing needle and thread through the remaining sts. Pull tight and secure the yarn.

MAKINGUP

With the hat and the border lying flat on top of each other, sew the border to the cast on edge of the hat. With RS facing sew up the seams on the border and then on the hat. Weave in all loose ends.
