Rib until work meas 4cm from cast-on edge.
Dec round (K14, K2tog) 12 times. [180 sts] Change to 4mm circular needles.
SET CHART
Repeating the 12-st rep 15 times around and joining in yarns as needed, work Rounds 1 to 23 of Chart.
Rep Rounds 16 to 23 of Chart once more, then work Rounds 24 to 44 once.
Break Yarn B and Yarn C and cont with Yarn A only.
(K15, M1) 12 times. [192 sts] Change to 3.5mm needles.
Work in 1x1 rib until rib meas 4cm. Cast off loosely in rib.
MAKING UP
Weave in all ends and block gently to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band.
HAT
Cast on
118 (132: 144) sts using 3.5mm circular needles (or DPNs) and Yarn A.
Join to work in the round, taking care not to twist stitches. PM to mark beg of round.
Round 1 *K1, P1, rep from * to end.
This round forms 1x1 rib.
Rib until work meas 4cm from cast-on edge.
Next round (brim turnback edge) Knit.
Cont in rib until work meas 8cm from cast-on edge.
Dec round K8 (9: 10), k2tog, (K10 (9: 10), k2tog) 9 (11: 11) times. [108 (120: 132) sts]
Change to 4mm circular needles. SET CHART
Repeating the 12-st rep 9 (10: 11) times around and joining in yarns as needed, work Rounds 1 to 23 of Chart.
Rep Rounds 16 to 23 of Chart twice more.
SHAPE CROWN
Change to DPNs when stitch count becomes too small for circular needles.
Round 1 With Yarn B, (sk2po, K6, k3tog) 9 (10: 11) times.

Round 2 With Yarn B, knit.
Rounds 3 and 4 *K1 using Yarn C, K1 using Yarn B; rep from * to end. Break Yarn C.
Round 5 Using Yarn B, (sk2po, K2, k3tog) 9 (10: 11) times. [36 (40: 44) sts]
Round 6 With Yarn B, knit.
Rounds 7 and 8 *K1 using Yarn B, K1 using Yarn A; rep from * to end.
Break Yarn A and cont with Yarn B only.
Round 9 (Skpo, k2tog) 9 (10: 11) times. [18 (20: 22) sts] Round 10 (K2tog) 9 (10: 11) times. [9 (10: 11) sts]
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
MAKING UP
Weave in all ends and block gently to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band. Using Yarn C, make a pompom and attach to top of hat.
