Using mattress stitch (see page 94), join seam from nose to chin. Working down from gathered back of Head, join seam leaving an opening of 2.5cm at base of Head. Fill Head with small amounts of stuffing at a time, taking care to push stuffing well into nose to shape it. Head should be firm to the touch but avoid overstretching the stitches.

Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten. Position Nose at centre of face and sew it on.

Mark eye positions with pins, with centre of each eye on Row 17 and 7 full sts between the eyes. Attach beads or buttons for eyes, or embroider eyes in backstitch as follows: thread tapestry needle with Yarn B and tie a knot 5cm from the end of the yarn. Insert needle into opening at base of Head and bring it out in the centre of one of the marked eye positions. Then work a series of small back stitches to build up a circular-shaped eye. Fasten off yarn. Repeat for the other eye, making sure eyes are equally spaced. Close opening at base of Head.
With Yarn B, and using the photographs as a guide, embroider the mouth on the bear.

4 With RS facing outwards, fold each Ear in half and neatly oversew side edges together.
5 Gently curve Ear inwards and sew onto Head securely, positioned approximately 7cm apart.
Position Head onto neck opening and sew in place.
RIGHT LEG
Cast on 14 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn C. Start at sole of foot.

Rows 22 to 61 Work as given for Right Leg. Cast off loosely.
1 Work a gathering stitch through the cast-on sts at sole of each foot and pull tight.
2 Using mattress stitch, join edges from sole of foot to just beyond ankle.
3 Stuff foot and ankle firmly, shaping as you go. Join remainder of seam leaving top shaped edges open. Fill remainder of Leg, thinning stuffing slightly at top of leg so Bear can sit.
4 Place base of body on a flat surface, position legs against sides of body and pin in place. Check Bear sits properly and adjust legs if necessary. There should be about 8 sts between legs at front. 5 Sew legs in place as pinned, adding a little more stuffing at top of Legs if necessary, before closing gaps.
ARMS (MAKE 2)
Cast on 10 sts with 4mm needles and Yarn A. Start at the paw.

3 Pin Arms to sides of Body. Attach Arms to Body by slip stitching
around the edges, pushing a little more stuffing into tops of Arms if necessary.
CHRISTMAS JUMPER BACK
Cast on 44 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn D.
Row 1 (RS) *K1, P1; rep from * to end.
Rows 2 to 3 Rep Row 1.
Row 4 Work in rib as set and inc 4 sts evenly across row. [48 sts]
Change to 4.5mm needles.
Join Yarn E and work Rows 1 to 22 of Chart, repeating sts 6 times across the row.
ARMHOLE SHAPING
Maintaining colourwork as set (beginning Chart again from Row 1), cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. [42 sts]***
Cont straight until Row 22 of Chart has been worked.
Break Yarn E and cont with Yarn D only.
Maintaining st st, cast off 5 sts at beg of next 4 rows. [22 sts] Leave rem sts on a holder.
FRONT
Work as given for Back as far as ***.
Cont straight until Row 10 of Chart has been worked.
SHAPE NECK
Next row Work first 15 sts from Row 11 of Chart, turn. [15 sts] Cont on these 15 sts only, leaving rem 27 sts on hold. Maintaining colourwork, dec 1 st at neck edge on next and foll 4 rows. [10 sts]
Cont straight until Row 22 of Chart has been worked.
Break Yarn E and cont with Yarn D only.
SHAPE SHOULDER
Cast off 5 sts at beg of next row. [5 sts] Work 1 row.

With RS facing, return to held 27 sts and place centre 12 sts on another holder. [15 sts]
Rejoin yarns and work Row 11 of Chart.
Maintaining colourwork, dec 1 st at neck edge on next and foll 4 rows. [10 sts]

SHAPE SHOULDER
Work 1 row. Cast off 5 sts at beg of next row. [5 sts] Work 1 row.

SLEEVES (MAKE 2)
Cast on 38 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn D.
Row 1 (RS) *K1, P1; rep from * to end.
Rows 2 to 3 Rep Row 1.
Row 4 Work in rib as set and inc 1 st at each end of row. [40 sts]
Change to 4.5mm needles.
Work Rows 1 to 16 from Chart, repeating sts 5 times across row.
Mark each end of last row worked. Work Rows 17 to 20 from Chart.
Cast off. NECKBAND
Join both shoulder seams.
With RS facing, 3.5mm DPNs and Yarn D, K22 held sts of Back, pick up and knit 15 sts down Left Front, K12 held sts of Front, pick up and knit 15 sts up Right Front, join to work in the round and pm to mark beg of round. [64 sts]
Rounds 1 to 4 *K1, P1; rep from * to end. Cast off loosely in rib.
MAKING UP
Join Sleeve seam as far as markers. Sew in Sleeves evenly, placing centre of Sleeves to shoulder seams. Sew side seams. Weave in all ends. Slip the completed Jumper over the teddy’s head and ease the arms through the sleeves to finish.
