Basic pattern: garter stitch (knit all RS and WS rows), using needle size 7 mm.

Cord-edge: selvedge stitch at front edge:

RS: at the beginning of the row: slip the first 3 st purlwise, with yarn in front, pull the working yarn slightly

when you knit the next st; at the end of the row: purl the last 3 sts.

WS: at the beginning of the row: slip the first 3 sts purlwise, with yarn in back, pull the working yarn sligthly when you knit the next st; at the end of the row: knit the last 3 sts.

Visible decreases at the front: Right-hand edge: cord-edge over 3 sts, k2tog in the back look. Left-hand egde: k2tog, cord-edge over 3 sts.

Back

Using 7 mm needle, cast on 53 (57) 61 sts and work in the basic pattern. In every RS row, work the center st by inserting the needle into the stitch below and knitting that stitch. Shoulder shaping: When the piece measures 59 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off at each edge 4 (4) 5 sts and in every other following row 4 sts 2x and 3 sts 2x (4 sts 4x) 5 sts once and 4 sts 3x. When the piece measures 65 cm, place the centre 17 sts on a stitch holder.

Left front

Using 7 mm needle, cast on 29 (31) 33 sts and work in the basic pattern, working the cord-edge over 3 sts at the left-hand edge = front edge.

Neck shaping: When the piece measures 56 cm from the cast-on edge, begin visible decreases at the left-hand edge: decrease 1 st. Work these visible decreases in every following r 3x and then in every other r 4x more.

At the same time for the shoulder shaping: When the piece measures 59 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off at the right-hand edge 4 (4) 5 sts and in every other following r 4 sts 2x and 3 sts 2x (4 sts 4x) 5 sts once and 4 sts 3x. Place the remaining 3 sts on a stitch holder.

Right front

Using 7 mm needle, cast on 29 (31) 33 sts and work in the basic pattern, working the cord-edge over 3 sts at the right-hand edge = front edge.

Neck shaping: When the piece measures 56 cm from the cast-on edge, begin visible decreases at the right-hand edge: decrease 1 st.

Place the remaining 3 sta on a stitch holder.

Sleeves

Using 7 mm needle cast on 24 sts and work in the basic pattern. For sleeve shaping, inc 1 st at each edge every following 14th (12th) 10th r 5 (6) 7 x = 34 (36) 38 sts. When piece measures 47 (45) 43 cm bind of all st. Work the second sleeve in the same way.

Finishing

Dampen and block the pieces according to the measurements shown in the schematics; allow to dry. Sew the shoulder seams using the kitchener st.

For the armholes, measure 20 (21) 22 cm from the shoulder seam on each side and place a marker at each. Sew on the sleeves slightly stretched between the markers. Sew the side and sleeve seams using the kitchener st. Continue with the 3 sts on the stitchholder of the right front and then continue with the st of the back to bind off the st as follows: * k2, slip 1 st knitwise, k1 of the back, pass the slipped st from the front over. Slide the 3 sts from the right needle back onto the left needle. Repeat from * until there are 3 sts left. Sew this 3 sts together with the 3 sts of the left front, using the kitchener st.
