Be sure to get the tension! (change needle size if necessary)
Hat
Basic pattern: k2, p2 in alternation, using 6 mm needles.
Cast on 72 sts using the 6mm needles, divide evenly over 4 needles (= 18 st per needle) and join to work in the round.
Work in the basic pattern until the piece measures 28 cm from the cast-on edge.
Begin decreases as follows:
Round 1: work each set of purl st as p2tog = 54 sts.
Round 2: work the 54 sts in pattern.
Round 3: work each set of knit st as k2tog = 36 sts.
Round 4: work 36 sts in pattern.
Round 5: work each set of sts as k2tog = 18 sts.
Round 6: work each set of sts as k2tog = 9 sts.
Pull the remaining stitches together with the working thread.
Finishing:
Fold the edge of the hat over toward the outside.
Scarf
Basic pattern: Garter stitch (in rounds: knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd in alternation; in rows: knit all RS and
WS rows), using 6 mm needles.
Note: This yarn has a degradé colour progression. In order to achieve the desired effect, when changing to a new ball of yarn, begin with the same shade in which the previous ball of yarn ended.
Using a piece of waste yarn, cast on 8 sts, divide evenly over 4 needles (= 2 sts per needle) and join to work in the round.
Rnd 1: k8.
Rnd 2: p8.
Rnd 3: *k1, yarn over*, repeat from * to * 8x.
Rnd 4: p16.
Rnd 5: *k1 (mark this st), yarn over, k3, yarn over*, repeat from * to * 4x.
Rnd 6: p24.
Rnd 7: *k1 (mark this st), yarn over, k5, yarn over*, repeat from * to * 4x.
Rnd 8: p32.
Continue working increases as established until you have 120 sts on your needles. In the following rnd, work the 1st st, then bind off 59 sts. Using the remaining 60 sts + the 1st st, continue working in rows, placing a marker at the centre. In every other following rnd, increase 1 st on each side of the marked st. At the same time, work the last 2 sts of each row as k2tog. The number of sts should always remain the same (alternating between 62 and 61 sts). When you have used up 3 balls of yarn, bind off all sts loosely (you will need approx. 2–3 m of yarn for this).
Finishing
Unravel the waste yarn, draw the working yarn through the live sts and pull snugly.
