Cut yarn and thread through sts. Pull up sts tightly and secure. Sew seam for about 7cm. Gather round cast-on sts and pull up tightly. Sew seam, leaving a 5cm gap. Turn chick RS out and stuff with filling. Sew rem seam of body to neck. Leave small gap for ends of eyes and beak to be secured. BEAK Cast on 8 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn B. Row 1 K2, k2tog tbl, k2tog, K2. [6 sts]

Next row Inc in first st, knit to last st, inc. [6 sts] Cast off purlwise.

Sew side seams of beak tog and turn RS out. Pin beak to centre of face, with shaped side uppermost, starting about 2.5cm up from neck. Sew securely, adding a little filling as you go.

EYES (MAKE 2)

Cast on 2 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn C, k2tog, cut yarn and thread through.

Sew in position about 2cm either side of beak.

Tie in ends securely.

Pin wings in place either side of body, leaving about 3cm between them at front, slanting downwards towards back so that front of wings are about 0.5cm from neck and back of wings are about 3cm down. Sew wings in place securely. Tie in all loose ends.

FEET (MAKE 2)

Cast on 6 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn B. Row 1 Knit to last 3 sts, turn.

Next row Knit to last 2 sts, turn.

Next row Knit.

Next row K2tog, knit to end. [6 sts]

Next row Knit. Cast off.

Place feet on base of body (starting about the 2nd garter st row on base) so that the tips at the front can be seen, then sew in place securely.

SMALL LAMB HAT

Begin at base.

Cast on 48 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn D. Garter st 2 rows.

Work 4 rows 1x1 rib.

Garter st 2 rows.

Next row K2, P2 to end.

Next row K2, P2 to end.

Next row P2, K2 to end.

Next row P2, K2 to end.

CROWN

crown begins with centre seam of hat at back. Sew ears to hat securely. Tie in all loose ends. Use a length of grey sport weight yarn to work an upside-down ‘Y’ for nose and a ‘V’ for each eye, then work an extra st in the centre of each eye. Tie in all loose ends to finish.

CHICK HAT

Begin at base.

Cast on 100 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn A. Garter st 4 rows.

Work 10 rows 1x1 rib.

Garter st 4 rows.

Change to 3.25mm needles.

Sew side seams tog and turn RS out. Add some filling. Pin beak to centre of face, with shaped side uppermost, starting about 5cm (2in) up from base of hat (with brim turned upwards). Sew securely, adding a little filling if necessary.

EYES (MAKE 2)

Cast on 3 sts using 3.25mm needles and Yarn C. Row 1 Sl1, k2tog, psso.

Cut yarn and thread through. Pull up sts tightly and secure. Place eyes in position about 2.5cm either side of beak, with top of eyes in line with top of beak. Tie in ends securely at back of hat.
