Back

Using needles size 4 mm and yellow yarn, cast on 80 (86) 92 sts and work rib between the edge stitches. When the rib measures 6 cm, in the last WS r, p to end. Switch to needles size 5 mm and camel yarn (as shown). After the 11th r from the rib, inc 1 purlwise into the loop between the stitches within the edge sts on both sides. Repeat increases in every 10th r, 4 times more = 90 (96) 102 sts.

Shoulder shaping: In the 7th r of the last yellow stripe, cast off as follows from the sides: In alternate rs 7 sts twice and then 6 sts twice (8 sts once and then 7 sts 3 times) 8 sts 4 times.

At the same time as the 3rd cast off for the shoulder, cast off the centre 30 sts at the neck edge and then work each side separately. In alternate r, cast off a further 4 sts once at the neck edge.

Front

Worked like the back, except the front has a deeper neckline.

Neck edge shaping: In the last WS r of the second pink stripe, cast off the centre 16 sts for the front neck edge. Work each side separately. At the neck side, in alternate rows, cast off a further 4 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once and 1 st twice.

Shoulder shaping: In the 7th r of the last yellow stripe, cast off in the same way as for the back. Work the other side in reverse.

Sleeves

Using needles size 4 mm and yellow yarn, cast on 42 (45) 48 sts and work rib between the edge stitches. When the rib edge measures 7 cm, in next WS r, p to end. Switch to needles size 5 mm and continue working stripes. Start with camel as shown. Row 1: inc 8 sts evenly = 50 (53) 56 sts. Then, in alternate rows, inc 1 st within the edge sts on both sides 6 times and then in every 16th r 5 times = 72 (75) 78 sts. When your work measures 45 cm, cast off.

Make a second sleeve identical with the first.

Neck edge

Sew the shoulder seams. Using circular needle size 4 mm and yellow yarn, pick up 90 sts along the neckline. Work rib in the round. When you have worked 4 cm rib, cast off in rib.

Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Weave in ends.

Work the second sleeve the same way.

Finishing

Spread out all the sections and dampen them, following the schematics. Leave to dry.

Sew the shoulder seams. Using size 3½ mm needles and green yarn, make the button band: Cast on 1 st (to sew the band on to the front section) and pattern the 11 sts from the stitch holder on the left front. Continue in pattern until the band reaches centre back when slightly stretched along the front edge and neckline. Cast off sts in pattern and sew the button band to the front section. Mark the positioning of 5 buttons on the buttonhole band, the first on the 5th row up from the lower edge, the last 1 cm under the neck opening and the other 3 evenly spaced between them.

Mirror the button band for the right front and work the buttonholes at the same height as the button markings, as follows: 5 sts in pattern, cast off 2 sts, pattern 4 sts. In the next row, cast the sts back on. Sew the buttonhole band to the right front. Set in the sleeves. Close the side and sleeve seams, sewing the final 6 cm of the seam on the outside so that the seam is not visible when the cuff is turned up. Turn up the cuffs.

Sew on buttons.
