Knitting needles:

Tension:

11 sts and 16 rs with two strands of yarn on needle size 8 mm = 10 x 10 cm.

NB: The coat is knitted with two strands of yarn.

If only one figure is stated, that figure applies to all sizes.

Stocking stitch: K on RS, p on WS.

Reverse stocking stitch: P on RS, k on WS.

Garter stitch: K in all rows

Twisted rib: * k1 through the back loop (tbl), p1 tbl *, repeat from * to * to end.

Knotted edge: All RS rs: Slip (sl) the first st knitwise and k the last st in the r. All WS rs: Slip the first st purlwise and p the last st in the r.

Quadruple edge stitches (double edge stitches + 2 sts in reverse stocking stitch): RS: k the first st, slip the second st with the yarn tail behind the work. Work p until the last 4 sts in the r, p2, sl second-tolast st with yarn tail behind the work, and k the last st. WS: Slip the first st purlwise with the yarn tail forward, p1, k2. At the end of the r, work to the last 4 sts, k2, then p the second-to-last st and sl the last st purlwise with the yarn tail forward. Pull gently on the edges to prevent puckering.

Front edge (5 sts in linen stitch): RS: * sl 1 purlwise with the yarn tail behind the work, p1 *. Repeat from * to * twice and then sl 1 purlwise with the yarn tail behind the work. WS: k over k and p over p. This means: p1, k1, p1, k1, p1.

Decreasing (dec): At right-hand side of the work: Work edge stitches, k2 tog tbl (= knit 2 together through the back loops). At the left-hand side of the work: k2tog and then work edge stitches.

Double cast off edge: * k2 tbl, k2 tog tbl, slide these 3 sts back onto the left needle *. Repeat from * to * until 6 sts remain (rem). Work k3 tog tbl, twice. Pull the first st over the second st. Break yarn and pull it through the last rem st.

Back

Using two strands of col 6 lilac, cast on 89 (95) sts and work 1 r rib between the quadruple edge stitches. This is a WS row. Then work 4 rs of garter stitch between the quadruple edge stitches. Switch to work with one strand of col 6 lilac and one strand of col 5 violet. Work in stocking stitch between the edge stitches. When the work measures 40 cm, switch back to working with two strands of col 6 lilac.

At the same time, from the 21st stocking stitch r, dec at both sides. Repeat dec in every foll 22nd row 3 times more = 81 (87) sts. When the work measures 100 (98) cm, inc 1 within the edge stitches on both sides for the armhole edges in every foll r, 5 times in all = 91 (97) sts. When the armhole edge measures 21 (23) cm, cast off on each side in alternate rows 8 sts 3 times and then 7 sts once (8 sts twice and then 9 sts twice) = 31 (34) shoulder sts. Next row: Cast off rem 29 sts at neck edge.

Right front

Using two strands of col 6 lilac, cast on 45 (48) sts and work 1 r rib between the quadruple edge stitches. This is a WS row. Next row (RS): Divide sts as follows: Quadruple edge stitches, 5 front edge stitches in linen stitch, 32 (35) sts in garter stitch and quadruple edge stitches. When you have knitted 4 rs with the stitches subdivided as above, switch to work with one strand of col 6 lilac and one strand of col 5 violet and in stocking stitch over the stitches until now knitted in garter stitch. Continue with the same edge stitches as before. When the work measures 40 cm, switch to working with 2 strands of col 5 violet. At the same time dec on the left-hand side at the same height and in the same way as for the back = 41 (44) sts. When the work measures 88 cm, dec for right-hand side of V-neck as follows: Work the quadruple edge stitches, work the 5 front edge stitches, then k2tog tbl and work to end of r. Repeat dec in every foll 10th row 4 times more = 36 (39) sts. When the work measures 100 (98) cm, for the armhole edge, inc at the left-hand side in the same way as for the back = 41 (44) m. When the armhole edge measures 21 (23) cm, cast off at the armhole edge in the same way as for the back = 31 (34) shoulder sts. There are 10 sts rem.

Back neck edge: On these 10 sts work about 13 cm with the same stitch division as before (work the 10th st on the shoulder side in garter stitch) Cast off.

Left front

Work the left front like the right front, only in reverse.

On 1st RS r, divide sts as follows:

Work quadruple edge stitches, work 32 (35) in garter stitch, work 5 front edge sts in linen stitch and end r with quadruple edge sts. When you have worked 4 rows, switch to work with one strand of col 6 lilac and one strand of col 5 violet and stocking stitch between the edges (as right front).

Sleeves

Using two strands of col 6 lilac, cast on 29 (33) sts and work rib between the quadruple edge stitches on both sides. Then work 4 rs in garter stitch over the sts previously worked in rib. Switch to work with one strand of col 6 lilac and one strand of col 5 violet and divide the sts as follows: Work quadruple edge stitches, work 9 (11) sts in stocking stitch, work 2 sts in reverse stocking stitch, (10) 12 sts in stocking stitch and end the r with quadruple edge sts. Row 7: Inc 1 on both sides within edge sts. Repeat incs in every foll 8th row twice and then in every foll 6th row 6 times = 47 (51) sts. When the sleeve measures 42 cm, cast off. Make a second sleeve identical with the first.

Pocket

Using two strands of col 5 violet, cast on 22 sts and work stocking stitch between the quadruple edge stitches on both sides. Next row: Inc 1 on both sides within edge sts. Work one row and then repeat these incs in the next row = 26 sts. When the pocket measures 24 cm, cast off with a double cast off edge.

Finishing

Sew the shoulder seams. Sew back neck edge using mattress stitch. Sew the edge to the back neck. Sew sleeves. Sew underarm and side seams.

Sew pockets onto fronts 45 cm up from the bottom edge and 7 cm from the side seams.
