Size 5 and 6 mm
Tension:
13 sts and 20 rows to 10 cm, over stocking stitch and lace pattern on 6 mm needles or the size required to give the correct tension.
Stripe sequence
Back and fronts: Work 12 rows in A, 30 rows in B, (8 rows in C, 8 rows in D) twice, 8 rows in C, 20 rows in E, 28 rows in F and 16 rows in B. Sleeves: Work 12 rows in B, (8 rows in C, 8 rows in D) twice, 8 rows in C, 20 rows in E and 10 rows in F.
Back
Using 5 mm needles, thumb method and A, cast on 89 sts. 1st row. K1, *p1, k1, rep from * to end. 2nd row. *P1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1.
These 2 rows set 1x 1 rib.
Work 5 rows more 1x 1 rib.
8th row. Rib to end, inc 1 st in centre of row. 90 sts. Change to 6 mm needles and proceed as follows:
1st row. Knit.
2nd row. Purl.
These 2 rows set st-st (stocking stitch).
Working in st-st (throughout) and commencing with 3rd row of stripe sequence as given for back and fronts work 138 rows more in stripe sequence, ending with 10 rows in B.

Left front
Using 5 mm needles, thumb method and A, cast on 40 sts.

Work 7 rows more in rib. Change to 6 mm needles and working in st-st and stripe sequence as given for back and fronts (throughout) work 126 rows, ending with 24 rows in F.
Shape neck
Next row. Knit to last 2 sts, k2tog (neck edge). 39 sts.

Next row. *K1, p1, rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Next row. *K1, p1, rep from * to end.
Last 2 rows set rib.

Left front border
With RS facing, using 5 mm needles and A, commencing at neck shaping of left front, pick up and knit 63 sts evenly along front edge and 5 sts evenly along rib. 68 sts.

Last 2 rows set rib.

Neckband
Join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 5 mm needles and A, pick up and knit 5 sts evenly along side edge of right front border, 14 sts evenly along right side of neck, 21 sts from back of neck, 14 sts evenly along left side of neck and 5 sts evenly along side edge of left front border. 59 sts.
Next row. K1, *p1, k1, rep from * to end.
Next row. K2, *p1, k1, rep from * to

Last 2 rows set rib.
Work 5 rows more in rib.
Cast off in rib.
Finishing
Fold sleeves in half lengthways then placing folds to shoulder seams, sew sleeves in position for approximately 23 cm, down from beg of shoulder seam. Join side and sleeve seams. Pin out garment to the measurement given. Cover with damp cloths and leave until dry.
