Knitting needles:

Size 6 mm

Tension:

16 sts and 26 rows in garter st = 10 x 10 cm.

16 sts and 22 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm.

Be sure to get the tension! (Change needle size if necessary)

Basic pattern 1:

Garter stitch (RS and WS: knit all st), selvedge stitch (knit the first and last st of the row).

Basic pattern 2:

Stockinette st (RS: knit, WS: purl).

Cable pattern:

Using needle size 6 mm, work according to the chart. Only the RS rows are shown. In the WS rows work the st as they appear. Work rows 1 – 22 once, work rows 3 – 22 4 times and rows 3 – 8 once

Using needle size 6 mm, cast on 130 sts and work the WS row as follows: selvedge st, k6, p116, k6, selvedge st. Work in the next RS row as follows: selvedge st, 6 sts in garter st (border), 16 sts in stockinette st, work the next 26 sts according to the 1st row of the chart with increases (= 36 sts), 74 sts in stockinette st, 6 sts in garter st (border), selvedge st. = 140 sts. Continue and work over the center 36 sts according to the chart in the cable pattern.

Work rows 1 – 22 once, work rows 3 – 22 4 times and rows 3 – 8 once = 108 rows.

At the same time, work 5 buttonholes in the right front border as follows: work 2 sts, k2tog in the back loop, 2x (yarnover), k2tog, work the remaining sts in the pattern. In the WS row knit the 2 yarnovers in the back loop. Work the 1st buttonhole in the 27th row, the other 4 buttonholes every 22nd row.

After 108 rows of the cable pattern, work 10 decreases in the same places as the increases in the 1st row of the 36 st cable pattern = 130 sts.

Continue in basic pattern 1 over all sts.

When the piece measures 55 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off 65 sts = 65 sts.

For hood shaping, decrease at each edge in every following 8th row 1 st 8 times, work the decreases next to the selvedge st.

When the piece measures 25 cm (= 66 rows) from the beginning of the hood, place the remaining 49 sts on a stitch holder.

Finishing

Sew the hood seam in kitchener st. Sew the buttons onto the centre of the left border, on the inside. Sew the bottom seam in mattress stich.
