Tell us about Rushlade Wool…

We started The Rushlade Wool Company in 2017 and we sell the wool of our own flock of sheep from our small family farm on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. We have a variety of di erent breeds o ering the perfect characteristics for most projects and crafts. Wool is available raw for spinners and felters or in a range of natural and hand-dyed yarns on our online shop.

What can knitters find at your online shop?

Everything in our shop has come from our own sheep (we have about 400, as well as 8 cattle and 10 chickens) and so is 100% British, traceable, high-quality wool. We sell yarns in bases including the fabulously soft Merino and lustrous Masham. Dyed skeins are created by me in the farmhouse, in small batches with colourways such as Heather, Dewy Meadow, Crisp Morning and Dartmoor Blossom, inspired by the moors and farmland around us. We also have naturally dyed yarns created with foraged ingredients from around the farm.

What are your highlights for 2022?

Lambing time is always the farming highlight of the year. This year we will be lambing 120 ewes, a lot less than normal to allow for the arrival of a baby in March too! For the wool shop we plan to add lots of new sheepy patterns to our ranges and hope to be able o er some farm tours later in the year.
