Knitting needles:

Size 4 and 5 mm

Circular needle size 4 mm (40 cm)

Tension:

18 sts and 27 rows in main pattern on size 5 mm needles = 10 x 10 cm.

Be sure to get the tension! Change needle size if necessary.

If there is only one number, then it applies to all sizes.

Border pattern:

Using 4 mm needles, k1, p1 in alternatio­n.

Main pattern:

Work according to the chart, using 5 mm needles. The chart shows only RS rows. Unless otherwise stated, work the WS row sts as they appear; purl yarnovers.

Work row 1 – 46 2 times, then repeat row 25 – 36.

Stockinett­e stitch in rows: RS: knit, WS purl.

Stockinett­e stitch in rounds: knit all sts.

BACK

Cast on 86 (94) 102 (110) sts using the 4 mm needles, and work in the border pattern.

When the piece measures 8 cm from the cast-on edge, change to the 5 mm needles and work in the main pattern; in the first row, inc 3 sts, evenly spaced = 89 (97) 105 (113) sts.

Work in the following stitch division: Size 36-38: selvedge st, work 1 st in stockinett­e st, work the pattern repeat 7x, end with 2 sts in stockinett­e st, selvedge st.

Size 40: selvedge st, begin with the 5 sts before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat 7x, end with the 6 sts after the pattern repeat, selvedge st.

Size 42-44: selvedge st, work 1 st in stockinett­e st, begin with the 2 sts before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat 8x, end with the last 4 sts after the pattern repeat, selvedge st.

Size 46: selvedge st, work 1 st in stockinett­e st, work the pattern repeat 9x, end with 2 sts in stockinett­e st, selvedge st.

Shape armholes: when the piece measures 38 (39) 40 (41) cm from the cast-on edge, bind off 7 sts at beg of row at each edge = 75 (83) 91 (99) sts.

For the neck opening, when the piece measures 56 (58) 60 (62) cm from the cast-on edge, cast off the centre 25 sts and finish working the 2 sides separately.

For the neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge in every other following row, 3 sts once and 2 sts once. When the piece measures 58 (60) 62 (64) cm from the cast-on edge, cast off the remaining 20 (24) 28 (32) sts for shoulder.

FRONT

Work as for the back but with a deeper neck opening: when the piece measures 48 (50) 52 (54) cm from the cast-on edge, bind off the centre 15 sts and finish working the 2 sides separately.

For the neck shaping, in every other following row, bind off at the inner edge at beg of row, 3 sts once, 2 sts once and 1 st 5x. When the piece measures 58 (60) 62 (64) cm from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 20 (24) 28 (32) sts for each shoulder.

SLEEVES

Cast on 38 (42) 46 (50) sts sing the 4 mm needles, and work in the border pattern.

When the piece measures 8 cm from the cast-on edge, change to the 5 mm needles and work in the main pattern; in the first row, inc 31 sts, evenly spaced = 69 (73) 77 (81) sts.

Work in the following stitch division: Size 36-38: selvedge st, work 1 st in stockinett­e st, begin with the 2 sts before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat 5x, end with the last 4 sts after the pattern repeat, selvedge st.

Size 40: selvedge st, begin with the 5 sts before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat 5x, end with the 6 sts after the pattern repeat, selvedge st.

Size 42-44: selvedge st, work 1 st in stockinett­e st, work the pattern repeat 6x, end with 2 sts in stockinett­e st, selvedge st.

Size 46: selvedge st, work 1 st in stockinett­e st, begin with the 2 sts before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat 6x, end with the last 4 sts after the pattern repeat, selvedge st.

When the piece measures 55 (53) 51 (49) cm from the cast-on edge, bind off all sts.

Work the second sleeve in the same way.

FINISHING

Dampen and block the pieces according to the measuremen­ts shown in the schematics; allow to dry. Sew the shoulder seams using the mattress st.

Set in sleeves. Sew the side and arm seams using the mattress st.

For the neckband, use the 4 mm circular needle to pick up 100 sts evenly spaced around the neck opening and work in the round in the border pattern. When the neckband measures 2 cm, continue working in stockinett­e st for the rolled edge. When you have worked 2 cm in stockinett­e st, bind off all sts loosely.
