Knitting needles: Size 6 mm

Tension:

14 stitches and 22 rows in seed stitch = 10 x 10 cm.

Seed stitch:

Row 1 (Right side): Alternate between purl 1, knit 1 to end of row. Row 2 (Wrong side): Alternate between knit 1, purl 1 to end of row.

Rib:

Right side: Every right side row: knit 1, purl 1 to end.

Wrong side: purl over purl and knit over knit.

NB: Work with two strands of yarn, one of each colour.

BACK

Cast on 52 (54) 56 stitches and work 4 (4) 5 cm of rib: Continue in seed stitch.

When the work measures 24 (28) 32 cm, cast off 2 stitches at start of row on both sides. Then, in alternate rows, cast off 1 stitch on each side twice = 44 (46) 48 stitches. When the work measures 36 (41) 46 cm, cast off the centre 18 (18) 20 stitches and then work each side separately.

Neck edge shaping: In alternate rows, cast off 2 stitches at the neck edge.

When the work measures 38 (43) (48) cm, cast off the remaining 11 (12) 12 stitches.

Work the other half the same, but reverse the shaping.

FRONT

Work as back until the work measures 34 (39) 44 cm. Cast off the centre 12 (12) 14 stitches at the neck edge. Now work each side separately.

Neck edge shaping: In alternate rows, cast off 2 stitches twice and then 1 stitch once.

When the work measures 38 (43) (48) cm, cast off the remaining 11 (12) 12 stitches.

Work the other half the same, but reverse the shaping.

FINISHING

Block both parts to stated measurements, dampen and leave to dry. Sew one shoulder seam.

Neck edge: Pick up 68 (68) 70 stitches along the neck edge and work rib. When the neck edge measures 3 (3) 4 cm, cast off. Sew the second shoulder seam and edge ends.

Armhole edges: Pick up 48 (48) 50 stitches along the armhole edge and work rib. When the armhole edge measures 3 (3) 4 cm, cast off. Sew side seams and edge ends.
