Pattern IV: 4 mm needles: k2, p2 rib, worked in the rnd.

Tip: The back is knitted in one piece along with half of each of the two front pieces. The 2nd half of each front and the shawl collar are also knitted in one piece. The arrows on the schematic indicate the direction of knitting.

BACK AND HALF OF EACH FRONT (PART 1):

Cast on 221 (233) 245 (257) sts with 4 mm needles.

Work 1 WS row in K, then continue in pattern I: after the edge st begin with the st before the pattern repeat, rep pattern 18 (19) 20 (21) times across and finish with the sts after the repeat, before the edge st.

At 35 (33) 31 (29) cm from the cast-on, place a marker at each end of the row and continue knitting straight.

At about 67 cm from the cast-on (after a 21st row) cast off all sts loosely, k-wise and mark the centre.

FRONT PIECES AND SHAWL COLLAR (PART 2):

Cast on 64 (70) 76 (82) sts with 4 mm needles.

Knit with foll distribution of pattern: 1 edge st, 60 (66) 72 (78) sts pattern II, 3 sts pattern III. Loosely cast off all sts at 161 (163) 165 (167) cm from the cast-on. Mark the centre of the piece.

FINISHING

With WS facing, sew the front with shawl collar (part 2) to the back (part 1), begin at centre back and draw in the top edges of part 1 to about 92 (98) 104 (110) cm.

At the sides of part 1 (= A) leave 32 (34) 36 (38) cm open for the armholes, but continue sewing part 2 down to the lower edge without holes.

Cuffs: With double-pointed needles pick up 64 (68) 72 (76) sts around each armhole and knit pattern IV in the rnd. When cuff measures about 40 cm cast off all sts loosely, pattern-wise.
