YOU WILL NEED

■ King Cole, Merino Blend 4ply (100% pure new wool, 50g/180m), 1 ball of each: Yarn A Aran (46) Yarn B Pink (858) Yarn C Sage (853) Yarn D Violet (1534) ■ A set of 3 mm DPNs ■ 3 pieces of florist wire, 30cm long

TENSION

Yarn used knits as 4ply to this tension: 28 sts and 36 rows to meas 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 3 mm needles

MAKE 3 (1 EACH IN YARN A, B & D)

Cast on 8 sts using 3 mm DPNs and join into the round, taking care not to twist. Round 1 Knit into back of each st. Round 2 *Kfb, rep from * to end. [16 sts] Rounds 3-5 Knit. Round 6 *Kfb, rep from * to end. [32 sts] Rounds 7-9 Knit. Round 10 *K1, kfb rep from * to end. [48 sts] Rounds 11-13 Knit. Round 14 *K2, kfb; rep from * to end. [64 sts] Rounds 15-17 Knit. Cast off. Weave in ends. Fold circle in half and, starting with the far left pointed edge, roll to form a rose. Use a few stitches to secure.

STEM

Cast on 16 sts using Yarn C and join into the round, taking care not to twist. Rounds 1-3 Knit. Round 4 *K2tog; rep from * to end. [8 sts]. Round 5 Knit. Round 6 *K2tog; rep from * to end [4 sts]. Slip remaining 4 sts onto one needle, *K 1 row, slide these 4 sts to other end of needle, do not turn work*. Rep from * to *, pulling yarn tight across the back of i-cord each time you start a new row. Work until it meas 11cm. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Place base of flower into the stem cup and stitch in place. Thread wire through the stem and flower head, trim wire and bend over ends to secure in place.
