TENSION

28 sts and 36 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over reverse stocking stitch using 3.25mm needles

28 sts and 56 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over slip stitch pattern using 3.25mm needles Cast on 134 (146: 162: 174: 190) sts using 3.25mm needles. Rib row 1 (RS) *P2, K2; rep from * to last 2 sts, P2.

Rib row 2 (WS) *K2, P2; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.

These 2 rows form rib.

Rib until work meas 4cm, ending after a RS row.

Dec row (WS) K2, p2tog, rib 62 (57: 71: 82: 91), p2tog, rib to last 4 sts, p2tog, K2. [131 (143: 159: 171: 187) sts] **

Work in rev st st, starting with a RS purl row, until Back meas 47 (48: 49: 50: 51)cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row. SHAPE SHOULDERS

Cast off 9 (10: 12: 13: 15) sts at beg of next 6 rows. [77 (83: 87: 93: 97) sts]

Cast off 10 (12: 13: 15: 16) sts at beg of next 2 rows. [57 (59: 61: 63: 65) sts]

Leave rem sts on a holder for neckband.

FRONT

Work as given for Back to **. SET BUTTERFLY-STITCH PATTERN Row 1 (RS) P0 (2: 2: 0: 0), *P3, sl 5 with yarn in front; rep from * to last 3 (5: 5: 3: 3) sts, P3 (5: 5: 3: 3).

Row 2 (WS) Knit.

Rows 3 and 4 Rep Rows 1 and 2.

Row 5 Rep Row 1.

Row 6 K3 (5: 5: 3: 3), *K2, lift the 3 strands from the previously slipped sts up onto the LH needle and knit these together with the next st to create a tuck st, K5; rep from * to last 0 (2: 2: 0: 0) sts, K0 (2: 2: 0: 0).

Row 7 Purl.

Row 8 Knit.

These 8 rows form the pattern and are repeated.

Cont in patt until Front meas 2 rows less than back to shape shoulders, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS AND NECKLINE Next row (RS) Patt 37 (42: 49: 54: 61) sts and turn, leave rem sts on a spare needle.

Next row (WS) Patt to end.

***Cast off 9 (10: 12: 13: 15) sts at beg of next row and 2 foll alt rows. [10 (12: 13: 15: 16) sts]

Patt 1 row. Cast off rem 10 (12: 13: 15: 16) sts.

Slip central 57 (59: 61: 63: 65) sts onto a stitch holder for front neck.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn at neck edge to rem 37 (42: 49: 54: 61) sts and patt 3 rows. Complete as for first shoulder from *** to end.

SLEEVES (BOTH THE SAME)

Cast on 70 (74: 74: 78: 78) sts using 3.25mm needles.

Work in 2x2 rib as given for Back for 4cm, ending after a WS row.

Work in rev st st, starting with a RS purl row, and AT THE SAME TIME inc 1 st at each end of next row and 18 (18: 19: 19: 20) foll 6th rows. [108 (112: 114: 118: 120) sts]

Cont in rev st st without shaping until Sleeve meas 48cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row.

Cast off 8 sts at beg of next 10 (10: 10: 12: 12) rows.

[28 (32: 34: 22: 24) sts]

Cast off rem sts.

MAKING UP

Join left shoulder seam with mattress stitch.

NECKBAND

With RS facing and using 3.25mm needles, knit across 57 (59: 61: 63: 65) sts from Back holder, pick up and knit 8 sts down left front neck, knit across 57 (59: 61: 63: 65) sts from Front holder, pick up and knit 8 sts up right front neck. [130 (134: 138: 142: 146) sts] Starting with a WS row, work in 2x2 rib as given for Back for 7 rows.

Cast off in rib.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Join right shoulder and neckband seam with mattress stitch. Set in Sleeves. Join side and Sleeve seams with mattress stitch. Block to measuremen­ts, following any instructio­ns on the ball band.
