MAKING UP

Weave in all ends. Block the piece gently to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band. Place pins to mark the washing line. Embroider the washing line in chain stitch using Yarn D. Embroider the clothes pegs in Yarn E. Embroider eight lines in chain stitch around the sun using Yarn C as shown in the photo. Sew the bottom and side seams. Fold the casing in half onto the inside and sew onto the bag, leaving a gap at one side for the tie. Sew the tab onto the opposite side of the open casing.

TIE

Cut a total of 9 strands in Yarn A and Yarn C, approx 125cm long, and plait to form a tie.

LINING

1 Cut a piece of lining fabric the width of the bag plus 1cm seam allowances, and twice the depth of the bag plus 1cm seam allowances, to end just below the casing.

2 Fold over one of the top edges and sew in place. Put the lining inside the bag and fold over and pin the second top edge to fit just below the casing. It is better to have the lining slightly shorter than the bag to stop it being loose at the top. Sew in place.

3 Pin side seams, try inside the bag and adjust to fit. It is better to have the lining slightly narrower than the bag to stop it being loose, so that the knitted piece is eased to fit the lining piece. Sew side seams. 4 Pin the lining into the bag and hand sew in place just below the casing. Thread the tie through the casing.
