Not just a bathtime buddy

Created by Emma Harrrihe LittleYellow Duck Project is a global initiative highlighting the lifesaving act of organ donation

The project was created by Emma Harris in memory of her best friend, Clare Cruickshank – a creative and kind woman who collected yellow rubber ducks. Clare was born with cystic fibrosis and by the age of 24 was in desperate need of a lung transplant. Unfortunately, a donor could not be found in time and she passed away on 15 April 2013, aged 26. Despite all of this, Clare was determined to donate her own organs after her death in order to give someone else the chance that she couldn’t have. As a result, the sight of two young adults has been restored by receiving her corneas.

TOUCHING TRIBUTE

In order to celebrate Clare’s kindness and bring attention to the importance of organ donation, LYDP are asking crafters all around the world

You will find patterns from wellknown designers on their website, including this one from Alan Dart!

to make little yellow ducks and leave them in public places for others to find. A special tag on each one invites the finder to take their gift home to brighten their day and visit the website in order to register where they found their duck, and hopefully also read some of the stories from organ donor recipients and consider signing up themselves.
