MAIN PART
Using 6 mm needles, thumb method and A, cast on 7 (8) stitches, with RS (right side) facing knit across 13 stitches left on a stitch holder for first ear flap, cast on 26 (27) stitches, with RS facing, knit across 13 stitches left on a stitch holder for second ear flap, cast on 7 (8) stitches. 66 (69) stitches.
Work 3 rows more in garter stitch. Breaking off and joining in colours where necessary proceed as follows:
1st row. Using B, knit.
2nd row. Using B, purl.
