CABLE SOCKS

Note All stitches are slipped purlwise unless otherwise stated.

Cast on 60 ( 64: 68) sts using 2.5mm DPNs and Yarn A, and join to work in the round, taking care not to twist stitches. PM to mark beg of round.

CUFF

Rib Round K1 ( 0: 1) tbl, *P1, K1 tbl; rep from * to last 1 ( 0: 1) sts, P1 ( 0: 1).

Rep Rib Round until piece measures 3cm from cast-on edge.

Break Yarn A and join in Yarn B.

LEG

Commence working from Chart B for your size as follows:

Round 1 *Work across Row 1 of Chart B for chosen size; rep from * once more.

Join in Yarn C.

Rounds 2 to 26 Work as set from Chart A. Rep Rounds 1 to 26 from Chart A once more. If you would like the leg to be a little longer before beginning the heel flap, repeat only Rounds 25 to 26 until leg is desired length.

Break Yarns B and C, and join Yarn A to work Heel.

HEEL FLAP

Worked over next 30 ( 32: 34) heel sts.

Using Yarn A and with RS facing, work back and forth as follows:

Row 1 (RS) *Sl1, K1; rep from * to end.

Row 2 ( WS) Sl1, purl to end.

Rep these 2 rows until 30 ( 32: 32) total heel flap rows are completed.

TURN HEEL

Row 1 (RS) K16 ( 17: 18), ssk, K1, turn.

Row 2 ( WS) Sl1, P3, p2tog, P1, turn.

Row 3 Sl1, K4, ssk, K1, turn.

Row 4 Sl1, purl to 1 stitch before gap, p2tog, P1, turn.

Row 5 Sl1, knit to 1 stitch before gap, ssk, K1, turn.

Rep Rows 4 to 5, until all heel sts worked.

Note You may have to omit the final K1/P1 on the last 2 rows for some sizes. [16 ( 18: 18) sts]

Next round K8 ( 9: 9), PM for beg of round.

HEEL GUSSET

Begin working in the round again.

Using Yarn B and with RS facing, knit across heel

flap sts, pick up and knit 15 ( 16: 16) sts along the side of the heel, pick up and knit 1 st at corner from row below to prevent hole, PM, work across next 30 ( 32: 34) instep sts from Row 1 of Chart B as set, PM, pick up and knit 1 stitch at corner from row below to prevent any holes, pick up and knit 15 ( 16: 16) sts along the side of the heel and knit across 8 ( 9: 9) heel sts to end of round.

[ 78 ( 84: 86) sts]

SHAPE GUSSET

Throughout, stripe yarns as set from Chart B. Dec round Knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, sl SM, work across 30 ( 32: 34) instep sts from Chart B as set, sl SM, K1, ssk, knit to end.

[2 sts decreased]

Round 2 Knit to marker, sl SM, work across 30 ( 32: 34) instep sts from Chart B as set, sl SM, knit to end.

Rep these 2 rounds until 60 ( 64: 68) sts remain.

FOOT

Set-up round (partial) Remove SM, knit to instep

SHAPE TOE

marker, this is now the new beg of round.

Next round Work across 30 ( 32: 34) instep sts from Chart B as set, sl SM, knit to end.

Rep this round until foot measures 3 ( 3.5: 4) cm less than desired length, ending after a Round 2 of Chart B.

Change to Yarn A.

Dec round *Sl SM, K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, sl SM; rep from * once more. [4 sts decreased]

Next round Knit, slipping markers.

Rep these 2 rounds until 40 ( 44: 44) sts remain. Work dec round only until 20 sts remain.

FINISHING

Slip 10 instep sts onto one needle, then slip 10 heel/sole sts onto another needle. Holding the two needles parallel, graft sts using Kitchener stitch. Weave in ends. Block gently to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.
