LG GETS INTO THE PLONK STOR­AGE BUSI­NESS, LOOK­ING FOR SELL­ERS

LG who is still look­ing for re­tail­ers to sell their pre­mium sig­na­ture range of ap­pli­ances in Aus­tralia is us­ing IFA 2018 to show off new brand ex­ten­sion prod­ucts in­clud­ing a new wine chiller.

Chan­nelNews un­der­stands that Har­vey Nor­man was ini­tially go­ing to sell the range then changed their mind. Launched ini­tially at CES 2016 the new wine chiller is ca­pa­ble of chill­ing 65 bot­tles in a stylish chiller that comes with a tex­tured-steel-fin­ish de­sign, the new wine cel­lar of­fers vari­able tem­per­a­ture set­tings for each shelf to cre­ate ideal stor­age con­di­tions for var­i­ous cat­e­gories of wine.

The unit also fea­tures voice recog­ni­tion; au­to­matic door open­ing (tripped by a foot-sens­ing sen­sor); an on­board drawer re­frig­er­a­tor with push-but­ton lift for easy ac­cess to bot­tles; and LG Sig­na­ture’s pro­pri­etary “knock-on-glass” amenity that il­lu­mi­nates the in­te­rior.

This al­lows own­ers to view their in­ven­tory through the cel­lar’s dark­ened glass door-panel with­out open­ing it, spar­ing the wine from dam­ag­ing sun­light and tem­per­a­ture fluc­tu­a­tions.

No pric­ing or ship-date in­for­ma­tion is avail­able, and LG Aus­tralia is not say­ing whether their neat new of­fer­ing is go­ing to be sold here.

Also, on show at IFA is a new LG Sig­na­ture washer. The new pre­mium clothes dryer au­to­mat­i­cally eval­u­ates the laun­dry load and ad­justs the set­tings ac­cord­ingly. It also of­fers a rapid dry­ing fea­ture, and an auto cleans­ing sys­tem that uses stream­ing wa­ter to clear away lint build-up.

In ad­di­tion to the wine cel­lar and clothes dryer, LG is ad­ding a sec­ond re­frig­er­a­tor to the Sig­na­ture as­sort­ment. The new bot­tom-freezer boasts such ad­vanced fea­tures as an au­to­matic lift to raise fridge draw­ers to eye level for eas­ier ac­cess to con­tents, and an im­proved autodoor open­ing, which senses when an adult is within close prox­im­ity and swings the door open twice as wide as the fore­run­ner fridge.

Cur­rently in the LG sig­na­ture range is the OLED Wall­pa­per TV, a door-in-door fridge, black-steel washer and combo air pu­ri­fier and hu­mid­i­fier, which carry sug­gested re­tail prices up to $20,000.

“Com­bin­ing beau­ti­ful de­sign with the lat­est tech­nolo­gies while stay­ing true to a prod­uct’s essence is what LG Sig­na­ture is all about,” said Song Dae-hyun, pres­i­dent of LG’s Home Ap­pli­ance & Air So­lu­tion Com­pany. “Ex­pand­ing our LG Sig­na­ture col­lec­tion to seven prod­ucts al­lows even more con­sumers to ex­pe­ri­ence the joy of own­ing a home ap­pli­ance that re­sem­bles a work of art.”
