ACER LAUNCHES WORLDS LIGHT­EST & THINNEST NOTE­BOOKS

Apart from launch­ing one of the worlds most ad­vanced gam­ing ma­chines and a vir­tual re­al­ity pod, Acer has also used IFA 2018 to roll out the world’s light­est PC.

The rad­i­cally im­proved Acer Swift 5 is the world’s light­est 15-inch note­book weigh­ing in at just 990 grams. This has been achieved through the use of new ma­te­ri­als re­sult­ing in Acer rolling out a mag­ne­sium­lithium al­loy body and un­der the bonnet an op­tion of 8th-gen­er­a­tion In­tel Core i7 and i5 pro­ces­sor.

Set to re­tail for around $1,690 the new Swift 5 was de­scribed by Acer CEO Ja­son Chen as “ar­guably the most ex­cit­ing” lap­top Acer has ever showed off.

The Acer Swift 5 has 14-inch 1080p dis­play and up to 16GB of DDR4 mem­ory. There’s In­tel UHD Graph­ics 630, plus up to 512GB of solid-state stor­age. Acer says the 15.6-inch Swift 5 (SF515-51T) should run up to 10 hours, while the 14-inch Swift 5 (SF514-53T) will last up to 8.

Also up­dated is the Acer Swift 3 prod­uct range with new 13.3 and 14-inch mod­els set to be launched in Aus­tralia. More por­ta­ble and de­signed with slim­mer bezels th­ese mod­els are set to re­tail for around $1,400.

Acer also showed off a new Chrome­book, the Chrome­book 514, which comes with a 14-inch screen, alu­minium chas­sis and a 12 hour bat­tery life.
