Brit sound brand Pure ap­pear to have de­vel­oped a unique Ama­zon Alexa speaker that pops up and down so that no one can record voices, it also looks stylish and de­liv­ers ex­cel­lent au­dio out­put.

Called the DiscovR, the por­ta­ble Alexa-en­abled smart speaker is set to go on sale in Aus­tralia this year for around $349 in what is be­com­ing a crowded voice ac­ti­vated speaker mar­ket.

Avail­able in two colours Sil­ver and Graphite the de­vice on a sim­ple voice com­mand play mu­sic, read the news, set timers and alarms, check sports scores, and con­trol lights around your home. You can also pre-set any voice com­mand, sta­tion or playlist to be ac­cessed in­stantly with­out the need to ask.

There’s a but­ton to mute the mi­cro­phone, touch con­trols for vol­ume and track skip­ping and source se­lec­tion is shown by its cor­re­spond­ing colour.

A fully charged DiscovR can power your mu­sic for up to 15 hours and thanks to its clever ex­pand­able acous­tic cham­ber, it’s even more com­pact when be­ing op­er­ated as a por­ta­ble speaker.

Able to con­nect to Ama­zon or Ap­ple AirPlay-2 the de­vice is both Bluetooth and Wi Fi com­pat­i­ble.
