LG TV
The battle for greatness in the highly competitive TV market has amped up, with LG announcing some stunning OLED displays coupled with AI capabilities at this year’s CES in Las Vegas.
At the heart of LG’s latest 8K and 4K OLED and NanoCell TVs are a number of advanced core technologies, most notably the new Alpha 9 Gen 3 AI Processor.
The Korean Company is rolling out 14 new LG OLED models, which include new art-inspired GX Gallery series 4K Ultra HD TVs, 88- and 77-inch class Real 8K models, and an all-new OLED screen size of 48-inch.
LG’s new advanced processing power and AI now delivers deep learning algorithms that appear to deliver significantly smoother pictures to the screen.
There’s also their all-new minimalist Gallery Series, which has an ultrathin form factor – their new 65inch model is an only 20mm thin.
They also come with an all-new specially designed wall mount and these 55-, 65- and 77-inch class models hang flush on the wall, providing a dramatic appearance and transforming the OLED TV into a piece of art.
The 2020 LG OLED ZX, which the company, in a direct stab at their competitors, calls Real 8K models, deliver four times more detail than 4K TV and 16 times more than HDTV.
The company has also played heavily on the fact that their TVs exceed the strict requirements established by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), who are the organisers of CES.
The 88- and 77-inch LG OLED models surpass the measurement criteria recommended by the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM) and are among the first to earn the new CTA 8K Ultra HD logo.
For 2020, while offering new versions of the two popular 4K UHD series (models CX, BX) in
77-, 65- and 55-inch class sizes, LG is also delivering a new OLED TV screen size of 48-inch. LG executives claim that this 4K UHD unit (model OLED48CX) reproduces sharper picture quality with 8 million-plus pixels on the 48-inch screen, density comparable to that of a 96-inch 8K TV.
The 2020 NanoCell lineup is highlighted by six Real 8K TV models (75- and 65-inch models in Nano99, Nano97 and Nano95 series), all also exceeding the stringent requirements needed to display the 8K UHD logo from CTA.
The new TV’s also come with support for Dolby Vision IQ and the UHD Alliance’s new Filmmaker Mode, which is supported by Hollywood’s leading directors. The technology disables certain postprocessing effects (such as motion smoothing, noise reduction and sharpening), while preserving correct aspect ratios, colours and framerates.
LG’s webOS smart TV platform will bring 2020 OLED and NanoCell TVs a plethora of new programming from top global content providers through apps and services such as Disney+ and Netflix.
New for 2020, the Apple TV app allows customers to subscribe and watch Apple TV+ and Apple TV channels, as well as access their iTunes video library and buy or rent more than 100,000 films and TV shows. Customers with 2018 and 2019 LG TV models will also be able to enjoy the Apple TV app this year.
Additionally, LG also unveiled a rollable OLED screen with curvable displays at CES. The impressive OLED TV can morph between flat and curved screen in just five seconds and is set to cost you US$60,000.
According to an LG representative on the showroom floor, the panel can bend back and forth around 35,000 times – an impressive flexible feat designed to enable the user maximum control over how they indulge in their TV.

While the concept display is designed for home entertainment setups, the benefits of morphable screens could be also positioned well for PC monitors. Combining both a curved and flat screen into one device allows for more versatility at your desk for switching between productivity, gaming and entertainment.
The Rollable can also unravel vertically to enable a screen-like display like a projection screen.
In addition to the TV displays, LG also demoed a foldable 13.3-inch tablet with a screen resolution of 1,536 by 2,048 pixels.
What makes this concept design unique is how the screen wraps around the edge of the tablet to offer a wider display screen, mimicking the popular flagship Samsung Galaxy curve phones.
LG also revealed a new comprehensive cordless, home-connected cleaning product range, which includes cordless smart vacuums and mops that work in unison and are an advancement
on current tech, offering home connectivity services facilitated by the use of a mobile app.
The yet to be released product range includes the CordZero A9 Stick Vacuum, CordZero Robotic Mop and the CordZero R9 robot.
Additionally, the range has its own new app called My Zone, which allows users to set cleaning tasks for each product away from the home – enabling ultimate convenience for busy owners.
Finally, LG unveiled its most advanced, awardwinning development in home washing machines – the LG ThinQ frontload washing machine.
The yet to be released product range includes the CordZero A9 Stick Vacuum, CordZero Robotic Mop and the CordZero R9 robot.
The winner of the coveted 2020 CES Innovation Award, the LG ThinQ delivers precision washing with convenience, performance and speed. It also features an AI Direct Drive motor, along with the company’s AI-powered Proactive Customer Care service.
LG’s new washing machine is able to detect the volume and weight of each unique laundry load and uses AI and advanced sensors to identify fabric types in each load.
Using deep learning technology, the washer then compares this information against more than 20,000 data points related to washer usage to design the optimal wash cycle setting for the best results.
Then, when its time to dry, the new LG Smart Pairing feature automatically sends the laundry information to the compatible LG dryer.
The intelligent washer can also connect with Amazon Alexa through LG’s ThinQ mobile app to provide notifications for such things as when the laundry detergent is running low. Owners may also enable Amazon Dash Replenishment via the app to automatically reorder supplies, such as detergent and fabric softener.
Following its CES debut, the LG ThinQ will roll out in North America in the first half of the year with availability in other markets to follow.
