Android vs. Apple – why it matters so much in a world where our phones are part of us. I recently made the life-changing switch from an Apple iPhone to an Android-powered LG smartphone. I never thought twice about continuing to buy Apple products. But once I realised I had the freedom and autonomy to ditch the iPhone, I'll never go back. After adjusting to a whole now operating system, it became so clear to me just how much our phones matter. It felt like moving to a new house or switching offices. Like many, I stare at my smartphone for an unhealthily large amount of time during the day and a different interface was a whole new world for me. Our phones, whether we like it or not, are now an extension of our person. Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, our smartphones became a lifeline. They connected us to family members and loved ones around the world, to our workplaces when the stay-at-home orders were at their strictest and provided critical updates about how communities were faring with the virus. We took for granted the ability to drop by our parents or grandparents' house for tea. For months, the only way we could get in touch was FaceTime, text or calling. Having an easy navigating system and interface is paramount to the user experience, and I've loved using an Android and Google-powered phone. Tech companies know just how much we rely on our phones and what we deserve from the experience and in this issue we take a look at the best devices for this new, strange world.
