The battle begins
Lily has to endure an awkward run-in with Jack to make career-best tV while Pete is in crisis
Could this be an opportunity for the pair to finally deal with what went wrong?
Work has been Lily’s salvation since her heartbreaking split with Jack but her attempt to produce the best work of her career brings them face to face. Meanwhile Pete is struggling to come to terms with Meredith’s decision to move overseas with their daughter when a professional crisis erupts.
Being dumped at the altar is not an easy thing to get over but Lily (Jessica Marais) is doing her best, putting her focus into her job. It’s the one area of Lily’s life that she always succeeds in and knows how to do well — romance, on the other hand, seems to be her Achilles heel.
So with the Logie Awards coming up Lily has suggested that The Breakfast Bar do an after-show. There’s excitement in the air with the idea a hit among the team and there’s a sense that this could be the best television they’ve ever put to air.
But being the chaotic, unpredictable, ego-driven world of breakfast television there is also plenty of potential for the special edition to be an absolute disaster. Threatening to unravel the production is an inevitable reunion with Jack (Rob Collins) who just happens to be a Gold Logie nominee.
Lily would likely be nervous about seeing Jack again after all that has happened between them. They really haven’t dealt with what led to their break-up. Could this be an opportunity for the pair to finally deal with what went wrong? Or will their confrontation get ugly on one of the most important days of Lily’s career?
Meanwhile, her best friend Pete (Ian Meadows) is having a tough time dealing with Meredith’s (Leah Vandenberg) plan to take their daughter Manisha to London with her. As if losing your little girl isn’t enough, Pete is also facing the prospect of his music show being axed due to plagiarism allegations.
The stress of it all is impacting Pete’s relationships and there’s potential that his behaviour will push new girlfriend Gillian (Natalie Bassingthwaighte) away. What Pete needs right now is the support of those he’s closest to but his frustration threatens to get the better of him. Can Pete pull himself together before he loses everything?
