Soap World - - PRIMETIME UK - SW

Nearing her due date, Laurel Thomas isn’t finding any time to relax as the daily rigours of coping with running a bustling household and caring for her husband Ashley – who has dementia – keep weighing her down.

Unable to take maternity leave from the factory due to being the family’s sole breadwinner, Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) shocks her boss Rishi (Bhasker Patel) by asking for more work. While determined to soldier on, Laurel does accept Ashley’s (John Middleton) invitation for a relaxing countryside picnic – but the mood sours as they face the prospect of an uncertain future. Once the baby’s born, Laurel knows she’ll be coping with it largely singlehandedly.

That reality comes faster than Laurel anticipated when she returns home, only for her waters to break while Ashley’s running her a bath! With contractions coming on strong and fast, Laurel decamps to the living room and is forced to give birth at home when the ambulance is delayed! She’s glad to have Ashley by her side but as he helps her through the delivery of their girl Dotty, Laurel can’t shut out the agonising fear that he’ll suffer another memory blackout which will leave her helpless and alone...
