EastEnders is bringing back the popular Tony Clay as the wacky and dim-witted Callum “Halfway” Highway, last seen in March. This time, Halfway will be joined by his older brother Stuart Highway, played by Him and Her star Ricky Champ. Stuart’s said to have shared a colourful past with Mick Carter, one he’s looking to revisit. The Halfway brothers appear soon.
CHarles laWson is to reprise his role of Jim McDonald on Coronation Street. Jim will soon be released from jail and head home for his son Steve’s wedding to Tracy Barlow. Charles, who played Jim from 1989-2000, 2003-05, 200711 and in 2014, confirms Jim will return permanently down the line. “They wanted me back full-time this year but I couldn’t do it. I’m to going to film a bit [this year] but be back again next year,” he says.
After four years as feisty, sassy Donna Yates, lisa Hammond is leaving EastEnders shortly. Meanwhile, ex-S Club 7 member HannaH spearriTT is reprising the role of Kandice, Karen Taylor’s wealthy younger sister, a role she briefly played in two ep last December. Hannah’s returning “for a few episodes later this year”.
KaTe oaTes, the producer of Coronation Street, has left after only two years, one year before her contract was due to expire, amid controversy surrounding the show’s current “dark” storylines. Despite bringing in increased ratings with her stories surrounding serial killer Phelan, David’s rape and Bethany’s grooming ordeal, Oates will be replaced from early June by Emmerdale producer iain mcleod. He’s already generating buzz with suggestions that he plans on axing younger castmembers, such as KaTie mcGlynn (Sinead) and Colson smiTH (Craig), to focus on stories for senior characters but the show has denied this. Meanwhile, over on Emmerdale, assistant producer KaTe BrooKs and series script producer laura sHaW will job-share the role of producer. Jane Hudson has also been appointed to the new role of executive producer. Expect big changes ahead on both soaps!

A couple of months after official denials had to be issued to refute US-based websites’ claims malColm HeBden (Norris) had died, another meanspirited hoax reports Corrie legend Bill roaCHe (Ken) had died at 85. Corrie used its official Twitter account to clear up the mess, saying, “Not at all. #FakeNews!”
