EastEn­ders is bring­ing back the pop­u­lar Tony Clay as the wacky and dim-wit­ted Cal­lum “Half­way” High­way, last seen in March. This time, Half­way will be joined by his older brother Stuart High­way, played by Him and Her star Ricky Champ. Stuart’s said to have shared a colour­ful past with Mick Carter, one he’s look­ing to re­visit. The Half­way broth­ers ap­pear soon.

CHarles laW­son is to reprise his role of Jim McDon­ald on Coronation Street. Jim will soon be re­leased from jail and head home for his son Steve’s wed­ding to Tracy Bar­low. Charles, who played Jim from 1989-2000, 2003-05, 200711 and in 2014, con­firms Jim will re­turn per­ma­nently down the line. “They wanted me back full-time this year but I couldn’t do it. I’m to go­ing to film a bit [this year] but be back again next year,” he says.

After four years as feisty, sassy Donna Yates, lisa Hammond is leav­ing EastEn­ders shortly. Mean­while, ex-S Club 7 mem­ber Han­naH spear­riTT is repris­ing the role of Kandice, Karen Tay­lor’s wealthy younger sis­ter, a role she briefly played in two ep last De­cem­ber. Han­nah’s re­turn­ing “for a few episodes later this year”.

KaTe oaTes, the pro­ducer of Coronation Street, has left after only two years, one year be­fore her con­tract was due to ex­pire, amid con­tro­versy sur­round­ing the show’s cur­rent “dark” sto­ry­lines. De­spite bring­ing in in­creased rat­ings with her sto­ries sur­round­ing se­rial killer Phelan, David’s rape and Bethany’s groom­ing or­deal, Oates will be re­placed from early June by Emmerdale pro­ducer iain mcleod. He’s al­ready gen­er­at­ing buzz with sug­ges­tions that he plans on ax­ing younger cast­mem­bers, such as KaTie mcG­lynn (Sinead) and Col­son smiTH (Craig), to fo­cus on sto­ries for se­nior char­ac­ters but the show has de­nied this. Mean­while, over on Emmerdale, as­sis­tant pro­ducer KaTe BrooKs and series script pro­ducer laura sHaW will job-share the role of pro­ducer. Jane Hud­son has also been ap­pointed to the new role of ex­ec­u­tive pro­ducer. Ex­pect big changes ahead on both soaps!

A cou­ple of months after of­fi­cial de­nials had to be is­sued to re­fute US-based web­sites’ claims mal­Colm HeB­den (Nor­ris) had died, an­other mean­spir­ited hoax re­ports Cor­rie leg­end Bill roaCHe (Ken) had died at 85. Cor­rie used its of­fi­cial Twit­ter ac­count to clear up the mess, say­ing, “Not at all. #FakeNews!”
