Astell&Kern

-

brought its recently unveiled AK300 digital audio player to Munich, intended to be a lower-level player for the company, still with 24-bit/192kHz bit-for-bit playback and higher levels (and DSD) via conversion, using a single DAC implementation of the AKM AK4490. As is the norm for A&K players, it can also be used as a standalone DAC with other sources. There is also buzz around A&K’s plans to release digital recorders, with the ‘AK3XX’ series (of which the AK300 is the first) to slot into an optional base which will add line/mic inputs and digital AES/EBU input, to create a recorder capable of DSD 5.6MHz recording. Astell&Kern is reportedly working with DPA Microphones to add a kit (pictured right) with microphones, stands, and cases, potentially catapulting the company into a whole new semi-pro recording field.
