Best Home Cinema Level I

Electronic Living

-

Asecond appearance as finalist in this category for Electronic Living with this Queensland home cinema, a project which had both a diminutive room and a restricted budget, too. The clients — big fans of the home cinema experience — were building a new home, and this room and its components were part of a larger integration job. The integrator explains the solutions.

“On the video front we were to provide an anamorphic projection system that would incorporate a ceiling-mounted projector at a ‘value’ budget that could handle natively the anamorphic conversion of feature films. Regarding the audio, we utilised acoustic treatment in key areas of sound refraction to dampen down the rooms acoustics and displace the sound imaging to allow successful acoustic harmonisation and balance to what would have been a lively and compromised sound output.” The team installed an acoustically transparent screen as well.

Controls that mimicked the other integrated systems in the home were a priority for the client, and Electronic Living also paid careful attention to the HVAC systems, lighting, and power management and conditioning in the room.

Key equipment brands include M&K speakers and JL Audio subwoofer, a JVC 4K projector with Avical calibration, and Control4 automation. See the full home on page 92.
