Monitor Audio goes for Gold
Longstanding UK brand Monitor Audio has announced a full fifth-generation revision of its Gold Series, trickling down features developed for the flagship Platinum II series. The range comprises everything required for stereo or home cinema configurations, with one standmount and two floorstanding models (the Gold 100, 200 and 300), the Gold 250 centre speaker, and the Gold W12 subwoofer with a 12-inch long-throw driver reinforced by a pair of bass radiators and powered by 600W of Class D amplification. Finally the Gold FX surround speakers are useful surrounds which can be on-wall flushmounted to function in either bi-pole or di-pole mode at the flick of switch.
The highfrequency drivers across the range are Oskar-Heilstyle Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD) tweeters, capable to 100kHz, while the bass drivers use
specially developed sandwich cone technology (RDT II Cone); Monitor Audio was an early leader in metal drivers, and these use thin ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium cones (C-CAM) with a Nomex honeycomb core and woven carbon-fibre back skin, to achieve high stiffness combined with lightness and damping.
As has always been the case with Monitor Audio, the construction and finish can be expected to be of very high standards, with options of satin white, piano gloss black, dark walnut, and the pictured piano ebony.
