The home cinemas featured in CEDIA’s ‘Level I’ category are always interesting for an insight into what can be achieved without a budget of megabucks. “We realised that this project would be pushing the value envelope and we were glad to accept the challenge!” says The Digital Picture of this room, where the client requested immersive audio, reference-level cinema design and 4K projection, and “after experiencing our reference demo room the client requested us to, within the limited budget, build an immersive audio system that would come as close as possible to a reference 105dB system for the front row of seats.”

Challenge accepted, then! A 16:9 screen was selected to allow for maximum screen width and height across all content, given the existing restrictive width at the front of the room. A relatively bright 4K projector and a positive-gain screen surface were chosen to deliver HDR content. Acoustic treatment included absorber panels for early first reflections on the side walls for the LCR speakers, an acousticallytreated rear-wall curtain and additional 3D diffusers between the surround and surround back speakers. ISF calibration completed the 4K video installation.
