HOME CINEMA OF THE YEAR LEVEL II FINALIST WAVETRAIN CINEMAS

-

This cinema by Wavetrain may look familiar, as it won a Sound+Image Gold Award just last issue. The home owners were looking for a cinema that would light up their evenings but without going ‘bump’ in the night — that is, a star-lit ceiling and a powerful sound system, but without waking the kids. The design of the air-conditioning system was a major factor in making this a reality and required a sharp attention to detail because even a single power point not sealed correctly could halve the sound isolation performance. As a turnkey cinema company, Wavetrain Cinemas was able to manufacture and install various AC products and custom sound isolation doors to ensure both that moviegoers would be uninterrupted by outside noise, and the rest of the house would be able to function without distraction.

The audio system uses Elementi Audio’s digital active speakers capable of a continuous level of 105dB with 3dB of headroom, while the 165-inch 2.35:1 screen is illuminated to 100 nits brightness — a necessity for creating a true HDR image in a cinema environment. The client also had the seats made D-box ready for future installation of coded motion control, with the centre ‘love seat’ fitted out from the start, assuring a moving movie experience!
