TCL stunners not for Oz?

-

We went to TCL’s press launch ast IFA 2018 to get the deets on the new 8K TV (see p12), but left more captivated by a series of new models that TCL has created under the banner of ‘Living Window’.

The four models are each inspired by a particular style or period of art — the Art Deco Living Window (top left), the ‘cubist’ Abstract Beauty Model (top right), the ‘abstract’ Modern Simplicity Model (bottom left), and the Oriental Elegance Model, inspired by Chinese folding screens (bottom right). We saw them in the flesh the next day on TCL’s stand, and they looked pretty much as impressive as the PR images shown here. They’re loaded with smarts, and have much larger sound systems than is the norm for TVs, including subwoofers.

But alas, they may not be for us! Talking to the TCL team at the EISA Awards event (see p16), we discovered that these lovely things are aimed at the China market only. We rather hope that will be reconsidered — it would raise TCL’s profile above the high-value TVs they’re known for here. There is hope: TCL in Australia tells us it’s “too early to say... but we’re discussing all options/opportunities.”
