Meet the carnival committee
New team works hard in lead-up
THE Kingaroy Christmas Carnival Committee has put in a lot of effort to prepare for the carnival on Thursday, December 13.
Committee president Craig Lucas praised all the hard work his new team had put in.
“New people have come onto the committee this year, which has helped out a lot,” he said.
“More hands were needed to do all the work. I’ve got a brilliant committee now and everyone has their different skills.
“It makes everyone’s work so much easier. I feel now that we’ve got a good range of skills of people working on the committee that it’ll only improve and get better for years to come.”
Mr Lucas and the committee took over from the Young Leaders group in 2014.
“I came on board in 2014 and at that stage the carnival was looking very sceptical,” he said.
“I was approached then about starting a Christmas carnival committee and I thought it was a great idea.
“We took it over from the Young Leaders and ever since then the Christmas carnival has been flourishing.
“It’s great to have everyone in the committee working towards the same goal.”
Mr Lucas said the committee was made up of volunteers that covered a range of skills.
“We have a registered accountant as a treasurer, our secretary is a past businesswoman and grandmother, we’ve got many other business owners and volunteers on the committee, as well as representatives from the council, AGL Energy, Ergon and other sponsors,” he said.
“It’s a very good committee for me to work with and everyone is very passionate about the event’s turnout.
“From every carnival, you can really tell how much effort the Christmas Carnival Committee has put into it too.”
The committee has been meeting regularly to make sure the carnival runs smoothly.
“We started having meetings once every couple of months and in the lead-up to Christmas, from June onwards, we’d be holding meetings monthly,” Mr Lucas said.
“When it’s closer to the carnival, we end up having
meetings almost every week to a fortnight.
“On Thursday morning of the carnival, we’ll have a quick meet to see how things are going and it’s all going to be ready from there.
“We’re all very excited and so far it’s coming along really well.”
