Risdon in line to make international debut

South Western Times - - SPORT -

BUNBURY’S Josh Risdon is in the middle of a huge fortnight for his soccer career.

The Perth Glory defender could make his international debut tonight when the Socceroos meet Kyrgyzstan in a World Cup qualifier in Canberra.

Risdon has been named in the 23man squad and is likely to compete with Scottish-based Ryan McGowan for a starting position.

His cause is helped by the fact Adelaide United’s Tarek Elrich, who started the last match in Risdon’s preferred right-back posi- tion, has been dropped from the squad.

The Socceroos will then meet Bangladesh, a team they beat 5-0 in Perth in September, in an away match next Tuesday — giving Risdon a second chance at a Socceroos appearance.

The 23-year-old was in the national spotlight again on Saturday when Perth Glory played Melbourne Victory in the national FFA Cup final.

Glory lost the match 2-0 but Risdon was one of his team’s standouts.

Perth Glory’s Josh Risdon is hoping to make his international debut tonight.
