Fans rush stores for Eagles gear
Finals fever has well and truly hit the South West after the West Coast Eagles continued to soar in the up-draft that is their finals campaign, qualifying for the AFL’s biggest game of the year.
SportsPower Bunbury was down to its last eight Eagles jumpers on Tuesday morning, and is reportedly struggling to source more.
“There’s none left,” store owner and manager Kellie Hayward said.
“We’re frantically searching around with all the suppliers, but in the last two weeks they’ve been flying out the door – we can’t keep up.”
The store was open over the Monday public holiday and according to Mrs Hayward, any and all Eagles merchandise was going out the door all day, with the past two weeks being a constant flood of inquiries.
InterSport Bunbury is also struggling to meet demand, with jumpers and polo shirts being the big sellers.
“We’re down to less than 10 jumpers,” sales assistant Alexis Earnshaw said.
“They’re selling really fast and we are trying to get more in but we’re struggling, the suppliers are totally out.”
Sportsmarine Bunbury was also feeling the pinch, having sold more than 25 Eagles jumpers on Tuesday alone, being completely sold out of jackets, very low on polo shirts and hoodies while scarves and beanies have remained in stock.
“It’s been quite a good run,” said store owner Paul Collett.
“Eagles supporters buy a lot of merchandise, perhaps six times more than Dockers fans.
“A lot of this stuff won’t be back in stock until April next year, but we have pre-ordered finals merchandise.”
SportsPower Bunbury floor assistant Jaxon Damiani, 14, models some of the remaining Eagles merchandise ahead of this weekend’s AFL Grand Final.
