Before the Country Cup cricket series takes centre stage at Forrest Park on Sunday, local BDCA sides will contest a full complement of fixtures a day earlier.

At the Eaton Sports Ground, the in-form Beavers and Hay Park square off, Marist entertain Colts at Forrest Park North and Dalyellup Beach host Leschenault at Dalyellup College Oval.

A bonus point from each of their two big victories over Dalyellup Beach and Leschenault has edged the Beavers to the top of the points table ahead of high-flying Colts.

The Beavers were made to work for victory on their home ground last week by the Green Caps.

This week, the Beavers entertain in-form Redbacks Jono Whitney, Michael Tassone, Punya Bahl and Graham Yates, against their heavyweight bowling attack of Steve Barron, skipper Clint Hewson, Clayton Caltsounis, Arron Quartermaine and Jake Rudd.

Whitney, pacey Reon Tither, Matt Stephens, Shaun Bulman and rising star James Ewing appear to have their work cut out containing the eager Beavers’ batting order on Saturday afternoon.

Reigning premiers Colts have been set up this season by excellent batting from skipper Cruize Ciallella and Murray Goodwin.

Marist will throw talented Brayden Clarke, an ace spinner, into the fray along with skipper Reece O’Connell, Allan Utterson, Matt Webb, Ben Shipley and Jack Wilson.

They should be confident of a strong showing, however, the Blues will need to be wary.

In the remaining game of the round, the Green Caps will be desperate to turn around their fortunes on the road against the Beach Boys.

They made a solid fist of their loss to powerhouse Eaton last week, with the Buchanan cousins, Kurt D’Agostino and Jarred Quinn taking the plucky visitors to within a whisker of 200, before the Beavers powerful batting list cruised home in the run chase.

With their concentrated batting line-up backed by Tim Dyer and Nathan Douch, along with former Dalyellup coach Matt Fink and Dwayne Franklin, the Green Caps will be confident of being competitive for lengthy periods.
