Foodbank Australia’s battle to rid the nation of hunger was bolstered earlier this month by a caring and selfless donation from the students of St Mary’s Jacobite Church Sunday School.

The 12 students all aged between five and 12years-old made a coin contribution to a collection box at the beginning of every lesson this year before also hosting their own garage sale in mid November.

In all, the students raised $500 and delivered the sum to Foodbank Bunbury on Friday morning.

Sunday school teacher Binhu Raju said it made her incredibly happy to see the students’ enthusiasm and efforts.

“At the garage sale, they were all up the front talking to the people about what they were doing and selling things,” she said.

“I was just at the back watching them, it was great.”

The students agreed collectively they could not believe they had raised $500.

Foodbank Bunbury manager Carol Hearn said the donation would result in more than 500 extra meals being created.

“They were just adorable and they were so excited about how many meals would be supplied,” she said. “It was quite amazing that these kids have done so well and it makes such a great difference.”
