Regional potential to be unlocked


The Federal Government is hoping to unlock the potential of the regions with extra support in this year’s Budget.

The Government is set to expand on its existing Building Better Regions Fund by adding an extra $250 million for its sixth round of grants, planning to build stronger communitie­s by creating more jobs, economic growth and infrastruc­ture.

Previous South Westbased recipients of grants from the fund include the City of Busselton, Shire of Capel, Shire of Collie, Shire of Manjimup, Busselton Jetty, Shire of Waroona and the Waroona Community Men’s Shed. The Government will also deliver a $1.2 billion package for the aviation and tourism sectors to aid COVID recovery and provide flow-on benefits to the regions. Regional arts is also set to benefit with the Government supporting the reactivati­on of events to safeguard creative industries. The Government has also allocated $1.3 billion for projects within WA including $288.1m for road safety and infrastruc­ture projects.
