Phoenix and North Perth draw in topsy-turvy battle

-

The South West Phoenix secured a 3-3 draw against North Perth United at Woodville Reserve on Sunday.

It was a topsy-turvy affair, with Nick Carter’s men taking the lead through veteran talisman Lydon Hodgkiss in the 18th minute.

However, United returned serve early in the second half, unleashing a blistering purple patch of two goals in three minutes, courtesy of David Byrne (50th minute) and Jean-Mark

D’Avray (53rd minute). To their credit, the Phoenix remained composed, matching United’s glut of goals 10 minutes after D’Avray’s effort.

Unfortunately for the visitors, they were unable to hold on to the lead for long, with Javier

Mestre ensuring the points were shared.

The Phoenix host league leaders Maddington White City FC, who last week lost 3-1 at home to Kwinana United, on Saturday night at Onside Sports Stadium.
