Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - MID-YEAR ADJUSTMENT -

THE State Government has provided a $247,400 grant to support Starick Services, a not-for-profit organisation that provides support to women and children fleeing domestic violence.

The Belmont-based organisation operates two refuges for women and children, safe places where local support workers provide crisis and transitional accommodation, outreach support, court and legal support, and community education.

Prevention of Violence Minister Simone McGurk said the money would be pivotal to support survivors getting back on their feet.

“This grant will also enable the organisation to upgrade its IT systems, revitalise the grounds at Starick House and Mary Smith Refuge and work with local schools and businesses to increase awareness of family and domestic violence,” she said.

A community linkage project will also be held, with Starick’s trained support workers visiting local schools and businesses, educating employers how to better respond to family and domestic violence.
